Summary of Position: The Chair position will provide leadership and direction for all academic offerings in the Department of Behavioral and Health Sciences which is part of the School of Integrated Health (SIH), in the College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS). This leader will manage the development and maintenance of curricula, develop systems and structures to support the programs, courses and academic offerings, and supervise faculty and staff of the department.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise the full-time and adjunct faculty and staff assigned to the Behavioral and Health Sciences Department, promote and advance research and service for full-time faculty, mentor full-time faculty on their professional development plans, oversee faculty on their assigned curriculum work, guide their rank advancement process, and perform their annual review in conjunction with the Executive Dean
  • Serve as the ultimate problem solver, and source of information for student and/or faculty on curriculum issues within the Behavioral and Health Sciences Department. Lead the faculty and staff in identifying and solving curriculum issues early to create strong customer satisfaction with programs
  • Provide academic oversight of the department’s programs to ensure they are conducted in accordance with the academic policies of the School, College, University and accrediting bodies
  • Lead and provide a strategic vision for the department’s programs, work with the Executive Dean on the development and implementation of program strategic goals and vision, and coordinate curriculum development of the department in collaboration with the department’s faculty
  • Identify new program ideas and expand the offering of the department’s degree programs while working with the Executive Dean to steer these new program opportunities through the College’s and University’s program approval process
  • Lead the assessment of each of the department’s programs to provide a strategic plan for each program. Report on the assessment data to the Executive Dean
  • Approve faculty course assignments for full-time and adjunct faculty
  • Support and cultivate the growth of the school and department
  • In conjunction with the Executive Dean and Alumni Director, identify new co-curricular opportunities for students, faculty, and alumni such as the speaker series, workshops, community events, discipline specific organizations, or networking events
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with the enrollment team, and the Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) Marketing Department, for marketing and recruiting of the department’s programs
  • Prepare and manage department budget with focus on achieving revenue goals and minimizing expenses
  • Provide Departmental leadership for faculty and staff as related to student issues including conduct, student honesty, grade appeals, and policy exceptions
  • Serve on Department, School, College, University, ad hoc, and standing committees and councils as required. Attend all school meetings
  • Supervise support staff to accomplish the department’s responsibilities
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Education

  • Doctorate degree preferred (Masters’ Degree Required) in a field related to programs offered in this Department.
  • Professional credentialing required (state licensure/certification) in a field related to programs offered within this Department.

Experience

  • Demonstrated, active affiliation with state and/or national professional organizations related to one of the fields of study represented by programs offered in this Department.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online educational delivery tools.
  • Demonstrated administrative abilities.
  • Demonstrated teaching abilities specifically with adult learners.
  • Demonstrated higher education experience.
  • Demonstrated budget management experience.
