Salary Range: The beginning salary range for this position is $92,112.24- $101,571.07




Position Overview


In coordination with the Learning and Instruction team and under the direction of the Dean of Learning Innovation, the Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator is responsible for the maintenance and execution of the College’s learning management systems (LMS), including the maintenance, evaluation, licensing, and training for any external tools or technologies within the online classroom, including the testing, evaluation, and support of tools. The LMS Administrator will also strategically manage data, reporting, and data access.



Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities


The duties below are representative of the role and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed within the scope of work.


  • Lead the effective implementation and ongoing maintenance of the LMS and all supporting tools, content, and technologies, roles, users, security, internal system notifications and other instructional technology user accounts.
  • Create and execute a long-term plan for learning management system growth and improvement.
  • Strategically manage data, reporting, and data access.
  • Manage the testing, integration, and evaluation of third-party content and tools that integrate with the LMS.
  • Manage vendor relationships as it relates to updates, integrations, and user management.
  • Create systems and workflows to ensure that all course resources are properly set up and available.
  • Provide help resources and training for students, faculty, and staff including instructional videos, how-to guides, and FAQs related to the usage of the learning management system, instructional technology, and documents relevant data about each external learning tool.
  • Establish and configure the LMS, including new courses and programs as well as focused on continuous program improvement.
  • Utilize project management to ensure successful development/implementation of course tools within the LMS, including building-level apps, and LTI configurations.
  • Provide guidance to the Learning and Instruction team to ensure efficient and effective resolution to course problems and trends by creating and maintaining system and process workflows.
  • Track usage of tools and the learning management system features to provide reports on trends and create and execute a plan to address those issues and trends.
  • Facilitate the escalation of and resolution for IT issues connected to the learning management system and/or external tools.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Experience with multiple external LMS vendors and tools.
  • Applications Administrator experience.
  • Excellent customer service and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience providing training to faculty, students and staff.
  • Advanced proficiency integrating external tools into the learning management system.
  • Advanced understanding of HTML/CSS with knowledge of LTI, API and OAuth.
  • Experience with Agile development and rapid prototyping that supports working in a fast-paced environment to meet ambitious deadlines.
  • Commitment to adding value to the team through efficiency and lean, iterative development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a growth mindset related to technology and personal growth.
  • Advanced skills in planning, organizing, and self-management.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented work approach working in a remote environment.
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in technology-driven document and collaboration tools, including but not limited to Google Suite, Slack, Asana, and web conferencing and cloud-based tools.
  • Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, staff and faculty.



Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in learning management system maintenance and administration for systems such as Blackboard, Canvas, Strut, Smart Author, Brightspace, Moodle, etc.
  • Minimum 3 years experience integrating tools and technologies.



Desired Qualifications


  • Technical certifications or coursework related to LMS administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to create systems and processes that support the effective management of the LMS.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with faculty, staff, students, and senior leadership.



Working Conditions and Travel


  • Calbright College is a statewide online college where all instruction and support are done via various online technologies both in person and remotely. Calbright College has administrative offices in Sacramento available for use. When working remotely, employees should be able and willing to use digital communication tools as used by the college, and have the ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.

  • Requires the ability to function in a remote online instructional environment performing work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in-person. Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in one-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment. Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens. Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment. Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
