The University of Virginia’s College at Wise (located in Wise, Virginia), seeks a full time Assistant Director of Institutional Research in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and analytical support and consultation to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness and Research in the areas of data extraction, reporting, and analysis
  • Coordinate and assist in the collection, verification and timely submission of external federal, state, ranking, and accreditation surveys in a timely and accurate manner
  • Perform and/or oversee the development of descriptive studies, analytics, reports, and dashboards that support institutional decision making
  • Extract, transform, analyze, and summarize data using various tools, such as SPSS, SQL, and R
  • Synthesize and communicate information using a variety of media and presentation formats
  • Maintain an apply knowledge of best practices in institutional research, analytics, and data visualization
  • Implement statistical tools to interpret large data sets, paying particular attention to trends and patterns that could be valuable for diagnostics and predictive analytics efforts
  • Assist in preparing reports for executive leadership that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data
  • Assist in responding to ad-hoc data requests and projects from both on-campus and off.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Master’s degree in research or analytics-related field, such as business, social sciences, statistics or education with a strong quantitative and analytics emphasis
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience in institutional research, analytics, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite with advanced expertise in Excel and Access
  • Intermediate to advanced expertise in SQL or similar relational database tools
  • Experience in predictive analysis and supporting tools such as SPSS, SAS, and R
  • Experience in data modeling and mapping
  • Experience using Power/Tableau
  • Experience extracting data from a Student Information Systems, such as Jenzabar or Banner
