Department Information

The Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology is the second-largest engineering college in Georgia, with nearly 5,000 students. Students engage in experiential learning with industry-expert faculty in the University's state-of-the-art facilities to produce Georgia's next generation of integrated engineers with technical knowledge, intellectual depth, and experience in professional skills. The college has two programs in the top 20 largest programs in the country and the third-largest African American student enrollment among engineering colleges.

The Industrial and Systems Engineering Department has 519 undergraduate students, 115 graduate students, and 11 full-time faculty members. The Department houses multiple undergraduate and master's degree programs and supports Interdisciplinary Engineering Ph.D. students. The faculty are committed to delivering a nationally recognized program designed to prepare students for pioneering careers in industrial and systems engineering. Scholarship in the Department spans both industry- and government-funded research projects focused on the practical application of engineering principles.

Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month administrative faculty position as a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering that begins July 1, 2023.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Chair include, but are not limited to, providing academic oversight of programs, supporting a transparent shared governance environment, managing and allocating resources, establishing and implementing the Department's strategic plan, managing and developing faculty and staff, reviewing and managing the Department's budget, working with external advisory boards, and leading accreditation processes. Quality teaching and research are expected, though the workload is negotiable.

The Department seeks a leader who can expand and promote innovative undergraduate and graduate programs. The ideal candidate should support and encourage a culture of diverse scholarship, teaching and service activities and foster a collaborative and collegiality climate. The Chair should be able to effectively advocate for the needs of the Department's programs, students, and faculty. The Chair should have a strong understanding of industrial and systems engineering and a clear awareness of industry and professional needs in the field.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications

A terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Industrial and/or Systems Engineering or a closely related field with an academic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenured Professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology at KSU is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience developing and/or implementing a strategic vision.
• Evidence of teaching and working with a culturally and ethnically diverse community, including successfully promoting diverse populations, scholarship, and teaching activities.
• Experience engaging effectively with external business and professional communities and funding agencies.
• Experience with ABET accreditation.
• Experience in securing national-level external funding.
• Industry experience and/or Professional Engineering licensure preferred.
