Assistant Professor - UX design and/or Sustainable Design

The Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design at the University of Houston invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position. We are seeking an accomplished professional with specialization and expertise in UX design and/or Sustainable Design research and practice.

The Industrial Design program at the College has established itself as a competitive award-winning program in both the national and international design landscape. This tenure-track position reflects the College’s strategic expansion in UX and Sustainable System Design through collaboration with institutions and industry partners. This individual will work closely with other faculty members under the concentration of UX and/or sustainable system design to expand a robust curriculum and research portfolio. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated understanding and expertise in these focused areas, and have experience in leading research and design projects in an academic or industry setting. The candidate should also demonstrate a thorough understanding of the value and potential of inclusive design for a diverse population and community. The candidate is expected to foster a climate of collaboration in the University community and support a positive and energetic environment that focuses on excellence in design research and practice. The candidate’s research initiatives will be fully supported by the College’s CRAFT Lab with cutting-edge prototyping systems including robotics, additive manufacturing, and interactive technologies.

As a member of the academic faculty at the College of Architecture and Design, this tenure-track position will be responsible for leading research in the focused areas, offering studio and specialized elective courses, and services:  

    Help develop and expand the UX and/or Sustainability System Design curriculumLead design studio teaching, lecture, and lab instructionCollaborative and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a diverse settingParticipate in seeking and securing external grants and funding to support researchParticipate in expanding industry collaboration/partnershipsContribute to the planning and expansion of the Industrial Design program

Description
Qualified candidates for the position must have a terminal degree in industrial design or related disciplines. The candidate should have a strong portfolio and some experience in cross-disciplinary teaching or practice evidenced by publication in design-related fields, success in competitively funded scholarly/professional activities, as well as a demonstrated commitment to excellence in design. Industry experience, specifically in UX/UI design and/or sustainable system design is required.
