The American Sign Language Interpreting (ASLI) Program at the University of Houston, housed in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, invites applicants for a nine-month, non-tenure-track instructional assistant faculty position, effective Fall 2023. Instructional faculty are full members of the department faculty and are expected to demonstrate excellence in the areas of teaching, service and community engagement. The department supports faculty through opportunities for research and professional development, and promotes engagement regionally, nationally, and internationally. Minimum qualifications include: earned doctorate in Deaf Studies, Interpretation/Translation or a related field, native or near-native proficiency in American Sign Language, ASLTA/RID/BEI certification, five or more years direct teaching experience in a postsecondary environment, and supervisory experience of intern/practicum students. - teach a variety of undergraduate courses on any of the following topics: interpreting/translation studies, sociolinguistic and regional varieties in signing communities, professional/ethical standards when working within bilingual communities, or ASL/Deaf education teacher education offer and promote professional development opportunitiesestablish or enhance additional strategic partnerships with community and university members to promote program developmentdevelop and supervise experiential learning experiences and internship/practicum opportunities for students andconduct research or scholarly activity.
