Located on a scenic 250-acre campus in historic Americus, Georgia Southwestern offers its approximately 3,000 students 40 undergraduate degrees and 14 graduate degrees to choose from among four Colleges: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Computing, College of Education, College of Nursing and Health Sciences. There is a specialist program in education as well as pre-professional programs in law, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and various allied health-care professions. GSW also offers Long-Term Care Management, the first of its kind in the nation, and participates in the Regents’ Engineering Pathways Program with Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Southern University, Kennesaw State University, Mercer University, and University of Georgia.

Job Summary The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the university’s chief academic officer responsible for leading innovation in academic excellence, intellectual growth, and student success. The Provost/VPAA reports to the University President and is a critical partner on the Executive Cabinet.

Responsibilities
    Work closely with academic deans to advance academic programs that are relevant and academically rigorous.. (20%)Ensure compliance with university, college and program accreditation standards.Lead effort to expand and enhance academic programs to address relevance, current trends and industry needs.Promote effective use of teaching and learning facilities and technology resources both on campus and virtually. Advance and support innovative teaching practices and research.
Oversee academic administration (20%)Work closely with academic governances to strengthen academic programs and operations. Advance Academic Affairs strategic plan, annual goals, and assessment.Address operational infrastructures to strengthen course scheduling, sequencing, and degree completion. Oversee academic related policies and procedures.Represent the faculty and appropriate staff to all constituencies, including the Board of Regents, administration, students and alumni, while also advocating ideas and proposals to the faculty.Serve as primary academic liaison with the University System of Georgia.Facilitate academic reporting requirements for external governances. Advance new and ongoing USG initiatives pertaining to academics. Perform budget management duties. (15%)Provides leadership and direction for the Academic Affairs budget development and management..Work close with the Vice President for Finance and University President on fiscal related matters. Facilitate processes and procedures related to faculty and staff employment and individual issues. . (20%)Manage faculty and student grievances. Assist direct reports with achieving professional and operational goals.Oversee faculty tenure and promotion. Performance professional assessment and improvement plans.Assist with addressing complaints and/or problems related to academic functions.Collaborate with Human Relations on employee issues. Sustain and enhance efforts to recruit, develop and retain faculty and staff.Contribute to increasing student recruitment, persistence, and completion. (15%)Collaborate with Student Engagement and Success in recruitment and retention initiatives.Advance university’s adopted QEP and priorities on experiential learning and other high impact practices.Seek creative solutions address persistence and completion rates. Perform a variety of related duties. (10%)

Required Qualifications
    Earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited University with academic credentials and experience that quality for appointment as a full professor with tenure.Demonstrated experience in administrative leadership and supervision.Demonstrated experience in teaching, research and academic activities and student success. More than five years of related experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    Knowledge of national, state, and local issues related to post-secondary education.
    Knowledge of University System of Georgia Board of Regents policies, procedures, practices, requirements, and reporting structures.
    Knowledge of SACSCOC accreditation policies, procedures, practices, requirements, and reporting structures.Knowledge of related federal policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.Knowledge of program curriculum review and development, program assessment, and student learning outcomes and assessment.Knowledge of budget development and management principles.Knowledge of faculty development and promotion policies and procedures.Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.Skill in decision making and problem solving.Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.Skill in oral and written communication.
