Position Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE (10 Months) Tenure Track position as Engineering Instructor in the Division of Math, Science, and Engineering located at Evergreen Valley College.
Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.
This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop and maintain engineering curriculum.
2. Develop and maintain engineering labs.
3. Design and/or modify lab experiments.
4. Seek funding for new equipment and supplies to support engineering labs.
5. Select textbooks and other instructional material.
6. Work closely with the engineering lab technician to support engineering curriculum.
7. Work closely with the library staff to maintain publications and resources for engineering.
8. Work closely with the counselling department to communicate any changes at the transfer schools.
9. Work closely with the IT department to maintain instructional needs of the department.
10. Be able to teach day, evening, and weekend classes.
11. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.
12. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.
13. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.
14. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.
15. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.
16. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.
17. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.
18. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.
19. Foster a professional work and learning environment.
20. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s in any field of Engineering
OR
Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry or Geology
(NOTE: A bachelor’s in any field of Engineering with a professional engineer’s license is an alternative qualification for this discipline.

1. Minimum of two years of industry experience in engineering field.
2. Experience in engineering curriculum design.
3. Experience in laboratory development and experimentation.
