The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of a Site Director, Internal Medicine for Women’s College Hospital. The Division offers the largest training program in Internal Medicine in Canada (200 residents) alongside faculty members who are national and international leaders in education and research. Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Effective start date for the Site Director term will be May 1, 2023, or an alternative date as mutually agreed on. The duration of the contract will be 3 years, renewable once.

The Internal Medicine Site Director position will be pivotal to the overall success of the IM Program and the Department. The Internal Medicine Site Director must be familiar with the structure and content of the Internal Medicine requirements, as outlined by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. The Site Director, while representing his/her base hospital, must recognize the city –wide nature of the Internal Medicine program.

The ideal candidate is a respected clinical teacher and innovative leader with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with an interest in education. A solid track record of communication and relationship management, supervision of residents, and rotation scheduling would be a strong asset. The Internal Medicine Site Director will be responsible for program implementation and admissions and to oversee the operation of the IM program at their base hospital site providing a link between the University Department of Medicine and the hospital based Department of Medicine. The WCH SD will be responsible for chairing the Internal Medicine Competence Committee. This role reports directly to the Program Director, Internal Medicine.

Applicants must hold an MD degree, be a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Internal Medicine Specialist or be eligible for certification in the RCPSC and licensure in Ontario. The hospital site for the Site Director’s clinical activities will be one of the following fully affiliated University sites: Sinai Health Systems, St. Michael’s Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, University Health Network, or Women’s College Hospital. The SD for Internal Medicine will receive an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine in the amount of $30,000.
