The Building Services Department is seeking (1) Custodian I to join the already excellent team taking the Building Services Department to the next level of excellence!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The ideal candidate provides custodial care for Georgia State University facilities. Cleans and performs room set-ups in assigned building areas following established routines and procedures. In addition to supporting the department Custodian I, assignments will generally fall into one of the following groupings, although overlapping of duties may occur as needed:

  • Sweeps, dust mops, wet mops, scrubs, strips, restores, buffs, and waxes floors, vacuums
  • Performs other duties needed to maintain the cleanliness of campus floors.
  • Removes trash and cleans counters, equipment, and furnishings.
  • Performs other duties to maintain the cleanliness of laboratories, office areas, classrooms, and other assigned work areas.
  • Cleans and restocks restrooms.
  • Set up chairs, tables, and other equipment in classrooms, meeting rooms, and other public areas.
  • Handles emergency clean-ups; performs other related work as needed.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, reach overhead, push and pull floor equipment (vacuum cleaner), push and pull large trash barrels, and lift full trash bags weighing 30 pounds. 
  • Must possess a normal degree of dexterity.
**Employees will use cleaning chemicals daily and sometimes work around potentially dangerous materials in certain laboratories. **



Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

    Must be able to lift approximately 30-50 lbs
Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

    High school diploma or GEDSix months of experience working in an institutional, industrial, or commercial setting.Ability to perform heavy lifting when required.Some knowledge of custodial services practices, techniques, and procedures.

The Georgia State Panthers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track and volleyball. The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
