Description:
The University of Pennsylvania's Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is pleased to welcome applications for a teaching position as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. We seek a dedicated, accomplished, and highly motivated, full-time instructor to deliver undergraduate and Master’s-level courses in the area of biotechnology. The position requires the supervision and operation of a bioprocess/biomolecular lab course at the undergraduate and graduate level. Experience with molecular biology protocols, bioreactors, and chromatography is essential. Additionally, the position requires delivery of a semester long lecture course in bioprocess engineering and biotechnology
Successful applicants embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. Members of our teaching faculty participate in departmental and school-level efforts to promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and to work closely with students to identify and address diversity challenges. As such, we request a discussion of candidates’ experiences in establishing and maintaining supportive, inclusive environments for diverse student communities, and what plans they have for being involved in diversity efforts at Penn.
This is a 9-month academic year appointment. Appointees can elect to have their 9-month academic base salary paid over 9 or 12 months. Depending on academic need Lecturers and Senior Lecturers may have the opportunity to earn up to three months of additional compensation by teaching during the summer semester. Successive one-year reappointments are possible following the initial appointment, based on an annual review and the department’s needs. After four consecutive appointments, lecturers can be considered for a Senior Lecturer position, which typically carries a multi-year appointment. Exceptionally qualified candidates might also be considered for direct appointment at the rank of Senior Lecturer. Successful applicants will find Penn to be a stimulating environment conducive to professional growth. The University of Pennsylvania is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
Qualifications:
PhD in Chemical Engineering, or relevant discipline, or equivalent experience. Hands on experience in biotechnology (e.g. biomolecular engineering; bioprocess engineering) is desirable.
Application Instructions:
To ensure full consideration, applicants are encouraged to apply by March 1st, 2023. However, applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
Applications must be submitted online via Interfolio. Applications must include a cover letter, CV, teaching statement, and names and contact information for three references. The teaching statement should summarize the applicant’s (i) experience with teaching (ii) experience in the field of biotechnology, and (iii) approach to contributing to a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
