Job Description:

BUILDING, IMPLEMENTING, SUSTAINING, AND COMMUNICATING A VISION OF THE UF QUEST PROGRAM
  • Provides leadership to shape a strategic vision for UF Quest. Develops and regularly communicates a strategic plan in collaboration with staff, campus, and external stakeholders that provides a sustained road map for excellence for the Program.
  • Oversees development, implementation, assessment, and re-certification of Quest courses in partnership with the University Curriculum Committee, General Education Committee, Academic Assessment Committee, and OUA.
  • Maintains various means of communication of the program to students and families, faculty, academic advisors, and external stakeholders, including web site, through UF Preview messaging, marketing materials, etc.
  • Communicates the status and outcomes of Quest courses to OUA and college administration through the Advisory Council for Undergraduate Affairs, General Education Committee, Faculty Senate, Undergraduate Advising Council, and Student Advisory Council for Undergraduate Affairs. Supports evaluation of use of e-portfolios as a possible assessment platform and means for students to reflect on their Quest and overall undergraduate education experiences.
  • Builds out a Quest program that threads all Quest experiences together. Ensures that the vision of UF Quest experiences and program align with the UF mission and Core Values. Develops program elements including but not limited to peer mentoring, Quest student ambassadors, and UF Horizon experiences.
  • Leads and partners the UF Quest 1, 2, and 3 faculty directors in their respective responsibilities of faculty mentoring in course development and implementation and ensuring that the University is prepared to launch the Quest 3 requirement by 2027.
  • Participates regularly in UF and national professional development activities offered by UF and nationally. Partners with faculty and the UF Center for Teaching Excellence in hosting an annual faculty symposium to share best practices in teaching Quest curricular experiences. Participates in and encourages Quest faculty to participate in scholarship surrounding UF Quest education.

CREATING AND SUSTAINING INNOVATIVE CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR EXPERIENCES
  • Through the efforts of the UF Quest faculty directors, partners with faculty to ensure curriculum and syllabi maintain all shared elements of Quest (e.g., student learning outcomes, active learning expectations, etc.) and consistent quality across all Quest curriculum.
  • Maintains a UF Quest web site, including list of active courses, and provides support for faculty in maintaining their Canvas sites.
  • Develops and implements shared policies and best practices for courses. Partners with UF Center for Teaching Excellence to nurture UF Quest faculty learning communities.
  • Participates in the UF General Education Committee and partners with the Committee in developing a strategic plan for UF general education.
  • Coordinates with participating colleges and departments in setting up and managing Quest courses each semester. Works closely with participating colleges, departments, and the Registrar to ensure ideal class locations and times, number of sections, etc.
  • Provides support and professional development resources for UF faculty and graduate teaching assistants involved in teaching Quest courses, including collaboration with the UF Center for Teaching Excellence. Collects, analyzes, and reports data about UF Quest faculty professional development and successful best practices

BUDGET MANAGEMENT, FUND-RAISING, AND STEWARDSHIP
  • Coordinates with finance staff in the colleges, the Provost's Office, and CFO's office for budget transfers to support Quest course operations. Meets periodically with colleges to monitor budget expenditures and needs. Reevaluates the Quest 1 and Quest 2 agreements at the agreed-upon regularity.
  • Partners with UF Advancement and the designated UF Foundation development officer assigned to the Office of Undergraduate Affairs in fund-raising and stewardship activities on behalf of the UF Quest Program.
  • Prepares donor information. Meets with potential donors when appropriate.
  • Provides stewardship of donations by remaining connected with donors to report to them responsible use of their funds toward achieving UF Quest goals and donation criteria.
  • When appropriate, partners with UF Advancement in submitting grants for funding of UF Quest to foundations and other appropriate sources

MANAGING DAILY OPERATIONS OF THE UF QUEST PROGRAM OFFICE
  • Supervises and manages daily operations of the UF Quest program office.
  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates a team of UF Quest staff. Encourages staff in pursuing professional development opportunities.
  • Develops, maintains, and regularly monitors the UF Quest office budget

Commensurate based on education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and planning skills. The candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills. The candidate must possess strong organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities. The ideal candidate possesses strong inter-personal and verbal communication skills and communicates effectively in writing. The ability to cultivate and sustain collegial relationships at every level is critical to this position. A successful Director will nurture development of networks across the University and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, working to build consensus in a collaborative fashion. The Director must work independently and interdependently and is able to establish and communicate a vision for the UF Quest Program to various levels of stakeholders.

A terminal degree in the candidate's field is required with at least 10 years of experience in an area related to general education. A record of success in supervising students or staff and growing and nurturing a team and positive work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in teaching Quest courses and serving in a Quest leadership role is desirable. Prior knowledge of University academic policies and procedures is desirable. Prior understanding of the curriculum approval processes of the University Curriculum and General Education Committees is desired. Other desired characteristics include a tenured position, strong organization skills, demonstrated success in developing and implementing programs, experience in successful philanthropic fund-raising, evidence of successful collaborations with faculty and administrators across colleges, dedication to town-gown relationship-building, a strong record of innovative teaching
