The Terrestrial Hydrology Lab in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cincinnati is seeking a post-doctoral researcher to investigate river water quality using hydrological models, surface water quality models, and remote sensing. Specifically, the research focuses on simulating the generation and transport of sediment and nutrients in rivers at the continental scale by leveraging models, remote sensing, and data science techniques. The successful candidate will be expected to develop/modify hydrological/surface water quality models to simulate riverine sediment and nutrients. The candidate will also be expected to present research results at conferences and publish peer-reviewed articles. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible annual renewals for another two years based on performance. The start date is immediately but is flexible between February 2023 and June 2023.
Essential Functions- Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
- Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
- Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
- Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
- May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
- Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
- Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.
- Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Ph.D. in Hydrology, Geosciences, Water Resources, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field required by the start date.
Required Experience- In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
- May require experience with specialized software programs.
- Experience in large-scale hydrologic modeling, surface water quality modeling, and remote sensing.
- Skills in programming languages (e.g., Python, R, or FORTRAN).
- Research skills and interests in geospatial analysis, data assimilation, and machine learning.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, ability to think critically, and experience in leading high-impact scientific publications.
