Job Overview

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine is recruiting a full time Post Doctoral Fellow to work in the lab of Jane Yu, PhD. This individual will assist the Principal Investigator to conduct research and analyze research data and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee.

Dr. Yu leads a research laboratory focusing on the investigation of the role of tumor suppressor proteins tuberin (TSC2) and hamartin (TSC1) in steroid action, cell survival, cellular metabolism, tumorigenesis and metastasis, and signaling transduction pathways. Her laboratory also develops animal models to test the efficacy of FDA approved drugs on the progression and metastasis of mTORC1 hyperactive cells, lung inflammation and injury. Current studies include determining the role of estrogen in the progression of lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), a female predominant rare lung disease, from the alteration of signaling pathways, to the integrity of alveolar epithelium and microenvironment in the lung, and to the pulmonary functions.

Essential Functions
  • Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.

Required Education

Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field, or the recognized terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent.

Required Experience
  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs.
Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Strong knowledge and experiences of molecular biology, cancer biology, and lung biology. Prior hands-on experience in animal models.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good productivity as demonstrated by a strong publication record.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Uphold scientific integrity, publish work in high impact journals, present work at both national and local research meetings, and train students and technicians.
