El Camino College is seeking a dynamic and talented Nutrition Science instructor for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position within the Industry and Technology division to teach all aspects of Nutrition Science. Some assignments may include evening, weekend hours, and/or dual enrollment courses offered offsite.

 

Faculty job responsibilities include the development/review of curriculum and assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.

 

The position requires participation in a variety of campus and division activities such as department meetings, committee meetings, student activities, and office hours. Faculty are also expected to foster collaborations with employers, industry/trade groups, universities, and high school partners and form partnerships with related instructional disciplines to support Guided Pathway initiatives and to improve student outcomes.

 

The ability to effectively teach Canvas online classes in order to offer online or hybrid courses is important. El Camino faculty must either complete our Online Learning & Teaching with Canvas (OLTC) course or provide sufficient evidence that they are prepared to develop and teach quality online courses through our waiver process.

 

Extensive knowledge in the field applicable to current industry standards is required as well as participation on advisory boards.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Master's in nutrition, dietetics, or related field, and Register Dietetics/Nutrition with the Commission of Dietetics Registration; OR

 

A Bachelor's in any of the above, AND Master's in chemistry, public health or family and consumer studies/home economics; OR

 

Meet equivalent qualifications established by the district AND appropriate certificate to practice or licensure or its equivalent, if available.

 

A teaching demonstration will be required by those candidates selected to interview.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Educational and instructional preparation in Food Service Management, Clinical Nutrition, and Community Nutrition.

Two years of teaching food and dietetics experience at the community college level.

Understanding of curriculum development and student learning outcomes.

Evidence of working with advisory committees in the Nutrition and Dietetics industry.

Expertise and professional experience in field of course(s) to be taught.

Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.

Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles.

Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery.

Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills.

Experience in the use of computer technology and other instructional technology to facilitate high quality instruction in classroom and lab.

Experience with online learning management system (CANVAS, Blackboard, Google Classroom, etc.).

Demonstrated experience examining and remediating one's instruction, interactions, and/or practices to more effectively engage and support diverse students.

 

Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

SALARY

The starting salary ranges from $73,328 - $100,718 depending on education and experience.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Contract shall be for a full-time tenure-track teaching assignment for the 2023 - 2024 academic year, beginning in August.
