POSITION: Director of Community Engagement, Public Service Law Center

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of the Public Service Law Center

STATUS: Full-time, Exempt, Hybrid Work Environment

SALARY RANGE: $75,000-$87,700

 

SUMMARY: Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is a distinguished, independent law school located in Brooklyn Heights, New York. Brooklyn Law School seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic Director of Community Engagement to develop opportunities for law students and recent graduates while providing counseling support to students. The Director of Community Engagement will work closely with our students to use their legal education to further the public good. The Public Service Law Center provides an array of resources and information on public service. We help students with career planning and job searching, plan events and workshops, and support pro bono projects led by the students.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Counsel law students and alumni on career planning, job search strategy, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and opportunities suiting students’ interests
  • Conduct employer outreach to nonprofit and government agencies to develop internship, job, and pro bono opportunities
  • Plan programs and events for BLS students, including panels, workshops, our annual Public Service Award ceremony, and our annual Service Day
  • Assist in updating handouts, intranet, and web materials
  • Attend public service community events to develop contacts that will assist our students
  • Provide support, along with the Executive Director, to the Law School’s pro bono program
  • Keep up to date on developments in the legal market and practice-area trends
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students and alumni, faculty, staff, and administration
  • Coordinate internship and job postings for students

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree and JD are required
  • Three years of legal experience working at a nonprofit or government agency
  • Demonstrated experience in handling detail-oriented responsibilities
  • Must have the ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical and organizational skills; public speaking skills; and the ability to develop and maintain relationships
  • Knowledge of non-profit organizations and government
  • Experience in event planning desired; experience in teaching desired; expertise in producing written materials for different audiences, such as brochures and web copy desired
