Department Information

The Area of Counselor Education in the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Speech-Language Pathology in the College of Education at the University of West Georgia invites dynamic applicants to join our rapidly growing Counselor Education program. The Counselor Education program houses a CACREP-accredited M.Ed. in Professional Counseling (School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling concentrations), an Ed.S. in Professional Counseling, and an Ed.D. in Professional Counseling and Supervision. The College of Education at the University of West Georgia is doctoral granting and SACSCOC-accredited, a recognized leader in preparing exemplary practitioners for all educational roles. The College offers high-level technological support, mentoring for new faculty, and opportunities to work with graduate students at all levels and to partner with school districts. The University of West Georgia, one of Georgia’s four Regional Comprehensive universities, is a rapidly growing institution located approximately 50 minutes west of Atlanta. Job Summary

This is a non-tenure-track, ten-month limited-term appointment. There is potential for a full-time long-term position to become available, based upon program need, growth, and innovation.

• Responsibilities include teaching graduate courses in the Counselor Education Program in both face-to-face and online environments and service to the Department, College, University, and community. The faculty member will be expected to significantly inform and assist in the development/revision of the curriculum and delivery of content in school counseling.

Required Qualifications Earned doctorate in Counselor Education (preferably from a CACREP-accredited program).

Certification eligible as a school counselor in Georgia or dual certification/license (School Counseling/LPC).

Minimum of 3 years of professional experience working in school counseling.

Possess a strong identity as a counselor and counselor educator as evidenced by active participation in professional counseling organizations, demonstrated commitment to professional development, and ability to facilitate outreach and facilitate community partnerships.

Commitment to working collaboratively with other faculty and practitioners to incorporate the professional counseling competencies into a cohesive experience for the graduate students.

Demonstrated understanding of assessment of student learning outcomes

Ability to facilitate program growth and innovation.

Preferred Qualifications

Desirable candidates will hold certification in Professional School Counseling and have professional work experience as a School Counselor.

Desirable candidates will demonstrate excellence in teaching a broad range of graduate-level counseling courses, including those in the school counseling concentration. The desirable candidate will have successful counseling experience in agencies or schools, teaching graduate courses, identifying and pursuing collaborative and entrepreneurial opportunities, developing and providing instruction through on-line or alternative methods, and developing collaborative relationships with academic and non-academic partners. Additionally, a successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to assist with student research and serve on doctoral committees.
