Description:
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of Computational Medicine and Translational Bioinformatics. We are interested in candidates who creatively develop and apply informatics approaches to drive biological discoveries and medical innovations, using large-scale data (e.g. genetic, multi-omic, EHR) and harnessing cutting-edge technologies (e.g. single-cell, spatial, imaging, artificial intelligence). Candidates working on biobank-scale informatics by integrating omic and clinical data across large-scale population cohorts are particularly welcome to apply. Candidates with postdoctoral training are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have an M.D./Ph.D or equivalent degree.
Teaching responsibilities may include participation in biomedical informatics and computational biology PhD and MS training programs, teaching informatics and data science courses in biomedical graduate programs, and mentoring of graduate and/or medical students. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring.
Clinical responsibilities may include activities in the faculty member’s clinical specialty (if relevant).
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include establishing and maintaining an independent, extramurally funded research program. Tenure track faculty oversee extramurally funded research projects as principal investigators. Opportunities exist to establish oneself as a research leader in their area of specialization.
The position is affiliated with the Center for Computational and Genomic Medicine (CCGM) at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). CCGM is housed in the state-of-the-art Colket Translational Research Building. A generous recruitment package and lab space will be provided, together with excellent institutional and core research resources. The recruitment is part of a campus-wide initiative to promote innovative computational strategies for advancing human health and therapy development.
The University of Pennsylvania is a vibrant team-science-oriented environment with outstanding biomedical research collaborators. It is an ideal environment for biomedical informatics collaboration and application-driven methodological research. The 10 primary faculty in the DBEI Division of Informatics have strengths that span the development, evaluation, and application of cutting-edge informatics methods, approaches, and software that impact the biomedical sciences and healthcare. The DBEI Division of Informatics is part of a large department, with dozens of highly collaborative faculty that specialize in biostatistics and epidemiology. The successful candidate can become an affiliated faculty member of the CHOP Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics (DBHi) and the Penn Institute for Biomedical Informatics (IBI).
Review of applications will begin in February 2023 and continue until the position is filled.
We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia are EOEs. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
