Position Title:Career Counselor (14929) Department:840441 - Career Development Center Job Posting Description:

SIUE's Career Development Center is accepting applications for the position of Career Counselor. The Career Development Center offers assessments to assist in identifying career options.The Career Counselor is responsible for counseling individuals and groups in various phases of the career development process, providing assistance to students with identifying and overcoming barriers to selecting major and determining career direction individually. The preferred candidate will assist with decisions relating to personal and career goals, administer and interpret career assessments to individuals and groups and conduct presentations and workshops. Additionally, this position will assist with writing cover letters, resumes, thank you letters, graduate school applications, job applications, and all other forms of business correspondence related to job search as well as teach networking skills, interviewing skills, and effective internship and full-time job search strategies to individuals and groups. The successful candidate will also discuss effective use of career and campus resources, including informational interviewing, print and on-line materials, Cougar Jobline, career fairs and other events, departmental Co-op and internship transcript recognition availability, professional attire, and social media and conduct presentations and workshops. Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs and goals of the department.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

-Master's degree in Counseling, College Student Personnel, Psychology or related degree.
-Course work should include foundations of psychological measurements and the measurements of interest and personality.

Preferred Qualifications:

-One-three years' of experience with career counseling, especially in higher education

National certification in administering and interpreting the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Interest in working with students with disabilities and student veterans
- Demonstrated experience with one-on-one unsupervised career planning appointments
- Demonstrated experience writing, critiquing, and reviewing student resumes
- Ability to present in large and small group settings
- Event planning or project management experience in career services
- Familiarity with Career Services databases (12Twenty, Handshake, Simplicity)
- Ability to create classroom presentations on career related topics using Power Point
or other media
