Full-Time Assistant Volleyball Coach

The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia is seeking a full-time assistant coach to join our indoor and beach volleyball teams.

The University of Lynchburg is a highly successful NCAA Division III institution and charter member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

The assistant indoor and beach volleyball coach reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Director of Volleyball. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Director of Volleyball. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.

Job Type: Full-time, benefits eligible

Start Date: Immediately

Job Purpose: The assistant coach for Indoor and Beach Volleyball provides support and leadership in all aspects of developing highly successful volleyball programs and mentorship for student athletes. The assistant is expected to be fully integrated into the life of the department and university mission. The position is an avenue to empower and build lives through the avenue of college athletics.

Specific Job Duties:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • assisting the head coach with practice/meet preparation and coaching,
  • individual skill development,
  • recruiting quality student-athletes,
  • scouting,
  • video editing,
  • coordination of team travel,
  • assisting with fundraising activities,
  • monitoring student/athletes academic progress,
  • in addition to administrative tasks and day-to-day responsibilities of the program.

Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills and competence with technology resources are vital to fulfilling the responsibilities of this position. The candidate must have a commitment to upholding the academic and athletic mission of the University.

Starting Salary: $33,000.00

Schedule: Typically 7.5 hours/day with evenings, weekends and to meet the needs of the program required.

Experience/Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow directions.
  • Must have good teamwork skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Functions of this position are performed sitting, walking, lifting, and standing.
  • Travel is required.
  • Ability to lift medium to heavy objects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree is preferred.
  • Competitive playing and coaching experience at the college level is preferred.
