Position Summary:

Nine (9) month undergraduate pre-tenure faculty position in the ACEN accredited A-State School of Nursing to begin Fall 2023. Participation in teaching, student advising, professional service and scholarly activity is expected. This position is full-time at the rank of assistant professor.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Actively participates in development and evaluation of curriculum, course content, clinical experiences, and test construction.
  • Responsible for clinical and didactic courses appropriate to areas of expertise
  • Plans and supervises clinical seminars
  • Establishes effective coordinating relationships with co-workers and clinical agencies
  • Continues education for professional growth
  • Conducts continuing education offerings
  • Participates in nursing research and other scholarly work, including but not limited to presentations at professional meetings, publications, grant applications, book and textbook reviews, enrollment in university courses
  • Participates in student academic advising and guidance
  • Maintains office hours
  • Participates in the faculty organization and appropriate program, college and university activities
  • Serves on assigned program, college and university committees
  • Sponsors and promotes planned activities of students, program, college and university as requested
  • Contributes to the community through involvement in and/or consultation to health-related organizations, board memberships, or professional presentations to the public
  • Participates in planning for the continued growth and progress of the program through faculty and student recruitment and retention efforts
  • Holds membership and participates in organizations that advance the profession of nursing, such as ANA, STTI or other professional organizations
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of curriculum design, strategies to promote student learning, assessment and evaluation of learning, evidence-based education principles, basic nursing skills and a commitment to life-long learning. Possesses interpersonal and communication skills necessary to teach as part of a faculty team

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required or applicable to the position responsibilities and area of specialization, including special abilities

General Days/Hours:

Typically, Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (hours vary related to clinical rotations, office hours, didactic course load, and other program activities). Clinical practicum may include Saturday and/or Sunday
Regular and reliable attendance on campus.

12 credit hour teaching workload.

Academic experience preferred in the areas of medical/surgical nursing, ICU, mental health, and/or maternal/child.

Minimum Qualifications:

1) Master of Science in Nursing degree, PhD or DNP preferred
2) Licensure to practice nursing as an RN in Arkansas or compact state
3) At least two (2) years clinical practice as a RN
4) Didactic teaching experience preferred
5) Evidence of peer-reviewed scholarship and potential for external funding preferred

The Arkansas State University System is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to serve staggered seven-year terms. The trustees hire the system president, approve the curriculum, annually approve an operating budget, and establish policies for the efficient and effective operation of the institutions.
