Program Coordinator
We are seeking a Program Coordinator. In an administrative capacity, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for enhancing patient and provider satisfaction, improving access to services, and assuring that patient data is captured and shared among the team members. This individual will serve as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, working closely with disease group leaders, and a wide ranging group of specialists and providers. The coordinator will responsible for coordination of services in the thoracic oncology sub-specialties and will be knowledgeable about the diseases and treatment options. The coordinator will establish rapport with referring physicians and work with these practices to efficiently facilitate consultation and transitions of care.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Coordinator of Care
  • Serve as primary contact for referring physicians, JHI, JHUSA to facilitate new patient consultation and transitions of care.
  • Screen new patients using clinical criteria; determine appropriate specialist(s) and clinical urgency.
  • Schedule new patients with appropriate provider(s) adhering to all established JHM Access standards
  • Ensure diagnostic testing is complete. Pend orders as needed.
  • Inform patient of needed clinical documentation related to care including imaging and pathology slides. Assist patient in process.
  • Advise patient and caregivers on what to expect during initial consultation.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of decision trees to enhance scheduling processes. Recommend changes as appropriate.
  • Serve as clinical triage expert to Call Center agents. Advise agent on proper call disposition as requested.
  • Proactively seek to improve or optimize work flow and discuss with supervisor and clinical leadership as appropriate.
  • Participate in clinical case conferences to present complex new patients requiring physician triage expertise - assures that clinical information is available for this review.






Patient Education
  • Provides patient with information including fee estimates, insurance requirements, self-pay arrangements.




Information Management
  • Develop referral reports to track referral patterns, volumes, and service delivery.
  • Monitors provider capacity/new patient slot availability and works with program leaders to problem solve and adjust as needed.




Marketing and Referral Services
  • Assist in developing a marketing plan for new programs and executing this plan in collaboration with the JHM marketing professionals.
  • Develop relationships with Cancer support groups, advocacy groups and private foundations/fundraising organizations. Represent the Johns Hopkins program, when necessary at events and seminars.
  • Build bridges with referring physician practices to facilitate timely access to JHH services.
  • Assure that referring physician communication is excellent.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Requires knowledge of standard PC word processing, spreadsheet, basic data entry, and graphics applications.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
  • Must have interpersonal skills necessary to handle sensitive and confidential situations, do team building, and prioritize competing tasks, and should include such personal characteristics as poise, tact and diplomacy, and the ability to interact with diverse groups of people within the Institution and from outside agencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and presentation skills are required.
  • Knowledge about cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Knowledge of approaches and methods for performance improvement.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze and create management reports, including financial, volume, variance, cost accounting, marketing and other data related to tumor type.
  • Ability to multitask and build consensus within a complex, diverse organizational structure.
  • Requires math and data analysis skills appropriate to understand and perform basic budget and spreadsheet functions.
  • Requires an excellent command of English grammar and spelling.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Five years progressively responsible related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $20.40 - $28.00/Hr (Commensurate with experience)
Employee group: Full Time
Schedule: M-F 8:30am- 5:00pm

30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
