Nature of Work

The Department of Pathology is seeking a talented and motivated post-doctoral fellow to take part in basic and translational research understanding the biological and mechanistic basis of aggressive clinical behavior of pediatric sarcomas, including Ewing Sarcoma and Rhabdomyosarcoma. The laboratory uses state-of-the art methodologies, including animal models and genomics, to understand how epigenetic and other mechanisms contribute to metastasis and sarcoma progression, with the ultimate goal of identifying new, more effective treatment approaches. Candidates should have a background and experience in cancer biology, molecular biology, or/and epigenetics/genomics. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, an independent and critical thinker, a meticulous experimentalist, a team player and able to multitask in an interactive setting. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and highly collaborative research team, and will be responsible for project planning and implementation, data analysis and presentation, manuscript preparation, and training of personnel, among other duties. Projects in the laboratory are collaborative and multidisciplinary with excellent opportunities for advanced training and scientific development. The PI is committed to supporting the fellow's career development and research progress, including fostering and facilitating grant submissions, attending and presenting at scientific meetings, and exploring new project areas and collaborations.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: culture of patient-derived cancer and other cell lines; phenotypic assays of cancer cell behavior (eg: growth, migration, invasion); retro/lentiviral preparation and transduction; shRNA knockdown and ectopic protein expression; SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting; PCR and qRT-PCR; DNA subcloning and mutagenesis; cistrome analysis including ChIP-qPCR/seq, CUT&RUN, and library preparation for next-gen sequencing; genomic data analysis; protein immunoprecipitation and interaction studies; murine xenograft model studies; curation, recording and analysis of data for discussion; troubleshooting and project management; preparation of scientific manuscripts, presentations and grant applications; training and supervision of lab personnel.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
    PhD in relevant field required.

Preferred Qualifications:
    Laboratory research experience in cancer biology, molecular biology, or/and epigenetics/genomics.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Knowledge of biological principles, processes and investigative techniques. Excellent laboratory bench skills. Able to design, execute, analyze and troubleshoot experiments. Able to follow and develop complex experimental protocols. Able to think critically and creatively problem-solve. Organized and detail-oriented. Excellent documentation, verbal and written communication skills. Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
