Description:

The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the area of Accounting with a focus in auditing or taxation. The expected start date of this appointment is July 1, 2023.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Accounting or a closely related discipline (Economics, Finance, or Law) by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. Applicants with a focus in audit must have a CPA designation. We seek enthusiastic and innovative individuals pursuing an award-winning career in university teaching and associated pedagogical or practitioner-oriented research, to complement and enhance our existing strengths. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of excellent teaching, a commitment to excellence in pedagogical practices and teaching innovation, and an interest in teaching-related scholarly activities in auditing, taxation, or other areas of accounting.

The successful applicant will demonstrate mastery of their subject area and will possess a strong demonstrated ability to integrate theory and practice through effective communication and presentation skills to stimulate and challenge the intellectual capacity of students. Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery and development of course-related instructional materials. Experience in teaching both undergraduate and graduate students in a management program is desirable. Prior experience teaching in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) is an asset.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical practices can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, strong letters of reference from referees of high standing, and the candidate’s teaching dossier. The teaching dossier submitted as part of the application should include a strong teaching statement, sample syllabi, course material, and teaching evaluations.

The successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to teach auditing or taxation in our Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting (GDipPA) program and have a good understanding of using cases to encourage critical thinking and in-depth analysis. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach a range of undergraduate and Master’s level courses in the areas of accounting, contribute to the ongoing improvement of the curriculum, and facilitate linkages with the business community.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
