Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)

Description:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine, along with Mount Sinai Fertility (MSF), are seeking a full-time academic Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility (REI) specialist with subspecialty training in Gynecologic Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (GREI). The successful candidate will join a team of 7 REI doctors that work together in a collaborative academic clinical environment, sharing earnings and expertise as well as responsibility for clinical leadership, medical education, and research. The successful candidate will hold an academic position description of Clinical Investigator and must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date will be July 1st, 2023, or another mutually agreeable date.

Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto is a leader in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine. The division of REI consists of 7 REI specialists. The Mount Sinai Fertility clinic provides all REI services at Mount Sinai Hospital and services a population catchment area of more than 4.5 million. The main site is situated close to Mount Sinai Hospital proper, and 2 satellite clinics (Mississauga and Vaughan) exist. Mount Sinai Hospital is a fully affiliated teaching hospital with the University of Toronto and is associated with the Lunenfeld Tannenbaum Research Institute (LTRI), an institute of international recognition in which research in Women and Infants’ health forms a major component. The Division is supported by a strong Genetics & Prenatal Diagnosis Programme, as well as large Urology/Andrology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and general OB Gyn programs.

A position at MSF provides a number of benefits to its REI doctors, including: a partnership with a team of engaged, experienced and team focused clinicians; access to a cutting-edge embryology laboratory providing a full range of fertility services including IVF, ICSI, PGT, fertility preservation and egg freezing; an ability to influence the operations of the clinic; and an ability to train and mentor residents and fellows who will comprise the backbone of Canada’s future OBGYN’s and REI physicians.

The position will focus on the provision of clinical services in REI and the performance of IVF procedures. The candidate will be expected to focus his/her clinical, research and educational activities in infertility and assisted reproductive technologies. Clinical care will be based at the main MSF or satellite locations with procedures occurring at the main site. The candidate is expected to devote at least 20% of their time to research. The candidate will maintain an REI practice and participate in a shared rotation for clinic procedures and call. Provision of clinical supervision and formal teaching for medical students, OBGYN residents and GREI fellows and other students at the University of Toronto is a core part of the daily work as well as research supervision for trainees.

In terms of research, the candidate should also possess demonstrated research skills and research potential expected for a Clinician Investigator, a record of research publications in REI in national and international journals as the primary author or supervising physicians which demonstrate current and sustained research productivity. The successful candidate should take a patient-focused approach to their practice and an evidence-based approach to clinical care, as well as have a desire to solve problems and provide creative solutions for challenging patients. They should also show leadership in shaping and guiding the clinical operations, and thus will need to be a strong communicator and excellent team player. This includes having a passion for clinical teaching, supervision, and mentorship with strong record of participation in these areas. Finally, the candidate should possess a desire to participate in decisions that will influence clinical financial results, and they should be able to function proficiently in English.

Candidates must either be licensed or be eligible for an independent or restricted academic licence, under the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Qualified applicants must either be board-certified (or eligible for certification) in the sub-specialty of GREI by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or have achieved an equivalent level of regulated sub-specialty training in GREI, in addition to the MD degree.

Applications will be accepted until March 10th, 2023, or until the position is filled.
