Primary Purpose:

The Director of Communications and Marketing will work closely with senior administrators within the organization as the communications partner on numerous strategic initiatives.

The Director of Communications and Marketing sets and guides strategies for internal and external communications including brand development, website content and development, media and public relations, and social media relations. The Director is also responsible for creating and managing print and electronic materials, marketing and advertising for the College of Law, crisis communications, and other communications initiatives designed to increase the regional and national visibility/prominence of Stetson University College of Law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Advises senior level administrators on communication issues related to the law school, the university, and educational community;
    • Responsible for enhancing College of Law brand identity and communicating those values to potential students, peer institutions, and the legal community;
    • Oversees daily production of print and electronic communications materials, marketing, and public relations campaigns, which includes writing copy for brochures, articles, fliers, advertising, internal and external communications. Manages the printing and distribution of those materials;
    • Supervises marketing creative team including media relations, social media, marketing and advertising, web content and web development, principal and regular photography;
    • Produces weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports including metrics of progress for the VP of University Marketing;
    • Updates crisis communications plan in partnership with other campus offices;
    • Manages all Admissions and brand advertising for COL, including negotiating contracts and completing contract agreement process; Advertising fulfillment: supervises or produces advertising including traditional, digital and social, but not limited to print, online, radio, TV, direct mail, social media and other forms;
    • Writes and supervises design and copy of all major publications including Admissions, and Alumni Relations, and other program marketing materials (i.e., view-book, prospectus, direct mail, fundraising, etc.);
    • Creates, manages, and tracks marketing budgets for the Communications Office and seven (7) other COL offices;
    • Writes and produces podium books for commencement, Honors & Awards, Hall of Fame, Inns of Court, etc.;
    • Develops strategic advertising and marketing campaigns;
    • Oversees brand continuity with the University;
    • Oversees principle photography for marketing materials and on the web;
    • Responsible for working with Multimedia Office to produce Admissions videos and Hall of Fame videos;
    • Speech writing when needed for special events;
    • Develop and edit external publications from concept to completion, including writing, editing, photography, creative directives, printing, and mail supervision;
    • Work with freelance designers as needed;
    • Proofread and provide design counsel for publications produced by the College of Law;
    • Editor of the Stetson Lawyer magazine;
    • Support special events, community relations, and other Communications Office activities;
    • Committee work, as assigned;
    • Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others;


Required Skills
  • BA/BS degree required from an accredited college or university with a degree in mass communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years’ experience required in managing a marketing or communications department with experience in: advertising/ marketing, (inbound marketing, behavioral targeting) community/ public relations, publication creation and distribution, photography, film and video production, web development and social media management.
  • University/college communications management experience preferred. Strategic planning experience is essential.
  • Ability to embrace and articulate the mission, core values, and aspirations of the College of Law and the University.
  • Significant senior-level administrative experience, including supervising staff and budgets.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and technology skills.
  • High level of judgment, discretion and confidentiality required.
  • Establish and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Required to serve as college spokesperson or develop emergency response messages as needed.
  • Night and weekend work may be required and working a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Ability to travel, as needed.
