Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:The theme of the UNC Center for Environmental Health and Susceptibility (UNC-CEHS) is translating interdisciplinary research on environmental health threats to improve public health in North Carolina.
The Center is funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and uses the NIEHS Strategic Plan as a guide for approaching environmental health research, with emphasis on serving the needs of North Carolinians. Leveraging the extensive resources available at UNC Chapel Hill and in the UNC-CEHS Facility Cores, the Center seeks to address state needs for environmental health Exposure and Fundamental Research across our three Research Focus Areas. The Career Development Program in the UNC-CEHS provides Training and Education opportunities for all UNC-CEHS members, but especially target new investigators. Since our state has a diverse population, economically and ethnically/racially, addressing environmental Health Disparities is crucial in the research and outreach initiatives of the Center. Most central to the UNC-CEHS mission is using Translational Science to move environmental health research from laboratory models-to-humans-to-communities, responding to our state’s needs through multidirectional Communication and Engagement that is led by our Community Outreach and Engagement Core (COEC). The Center actively partners with multiple departments/units across the University.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Budget and Finance Coordinator for the CEHS. The position has responsibility to analyze data for accuracy, to problem-solve, and to interpret grant and financial regulations. Accountable for accuracy of entries and reconciliation of data and information. Positions works closely with the Associate Director to identify and make recommendations for system changes and to test new processes.
Budget and finance coordination will entail grant proposal processing and interactions with the University’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) regarding proposal and budget development, submittal, and contract discussions. Ramses, Cayuse, eRA Commons, and other grant systems will be utilized. The incumbent will budget awarded funds, obtain project ids, reconcile expenses, ensures that all expenses are cost coded correctly, and provide monthly expense reports to the Center’s Associate Director for Administration and meets at least quarterly to discuss any important changes that may affect the forecasting of a project’s expenses. Incumbent will be responsible for maintaining all back up paperwork for purchases, p-cards, purchase orders (POs) etc and approving for allow-ability and appropriateness.
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:Excellent interpersonal communication skills; experience with and knowledge of accounting software programs; knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:It is preferred that the candidate be proficient with all UNC systems, including, but not limited to, ConnectCarolina, InfoPorte and RAMSeS.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers.
