The TEACCH Autism Program began in 1972 as a system of university-based regional centers to serve children, adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families. As part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the program has an active clinical, teaching, and research program. TEACCH operates seven community regional clinics across the state. Each center offers a set of core services along with unique demonstration programs meeting the needs of individuals with ASD, their families, and professionals across the state of North Carolina. Also, part of TEACCH are the Carolina Living and Learning Center, a residential/vocational training facility for autistic adults as well as an Employment Services program providing Job Coaching and related services to adults on the spectrum.

TEACCH is part of the North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) program and faculty are actively involved in student and professional training activities within the state, nation, and across the world. All TEACCH programs are coordinated through a central administration and research unit in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

TEACCH provides clinical services such as diagnostic evaluations, psychotherapy, speech language therapy, and parent support groups. In addition, TEACCH conducts training nationally and internationally and provides consultation for teachers, residential care providers, and other professionals from a variety of disciplines. Research activities include clinical trials intervention and implementation studies.

This position is located at the TEACCH Administration & Research Building in Carrboro, NC.

Position Summary:

The TEACCH Autism Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an experienced Research Program Manager to oversee a large and complex research portfolio focused on autism services, mental health, and implementation science. This individual will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Brenna Maddox, as well as a large team of co-investigators, community partners, community implementers, and research staff.

The primary focus will be three multi-state, multi-site clinical trials:
- $9-million award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to compare the effectiveness of two suicide prevention interventions for individuals on the autism spectrum in a 5-year study
- A PCORI-funded, 3-year comparative effectiveness study of school-based interventions to manage anxiety in autistic students
- A 3-year community-partnered study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of a cognitive-behavioral therapy program designed for youth with autism and anxiety served in community mental health centers

The position will provide direction for project design, implementation, and evaluation; supervise project coordinators and research assistants; develop study protocols; manage study deliverables; lead trainings with study personnel; cultivate relationships and serve as a liaison with community partners; oversee participant recruitment and enrollment efforts; oversee the implementation of study interventions in community-based settings; attend regular meetings with the study teams to discuss study progress; contribute to manuscript writing and dissemination efforts; and contribute to grant writing.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

The selected candidate will/will have:
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of research, regulatory compliance, and ability to understand a clinical protocol and research contract
- Experience in creating administrative tools, developing and implementing new processes, and drafting standard operating procedures
- Experience in performing quality audits for compliance
- Experience in educating research coordinators
- Communicate effectively, efficiently, and diplomatically, both orally and in writing
- Work independently and be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and prioritize high-volume work-load with minimal supervision
- Critical thinking skills for problem solving with strategic thinking capacity to drive the research studies while understanding the upstream and downstream implications of decisions that affect study timelines
- Plan work to meet established deadlines
- Be adaptable/flexible and able to adjust to challenges with confidence and professionalism

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

PhD preferred. Preference for at least 5 years of experience in research quality assurance or research coordination role. Clinical research certification (CCRP, CCRC, ACRP-CP, RAC) preferred.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina.
