The University of Colorado School of Medicine Physical Therapy Program in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is home to three educational programs: the Physical Therapy Program, Pediatric Physical Therapy Residency Program, and PhD Program in Rehabilitation Science. The CU Physical Therapy Program most recently was ranked within the Top 13 accredited physical therapy programs in the United States by the U.S. News and World Report and is one of the first 25 educational programs still in existence in the United States. Additionally, our clinical and research partners include the Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Affairs Medical Center, University of Colorado Hospital, Children's Hospital Colorado, Craig Hospital, and Colorado Clinical & Translational Sciences Institute.
In addition to the wide array of health-related programs and facilities offered at the Anschutz Medical Campus, a significant number of undergraduate and graduate degree programs are taught at our comprehensive campus in the heart of downtown Denver. Denver is one of America's most vibrant urban centers and the downtown campus, located just steps from the Denver Center for Performing Arts and the LoDo District. The metropolitan area affords our students, faculty and staff access to a broad array of academic, professional, community, recreational and cultural outlets. Moreover, the state of Colorado offers ample outdoor activities through its 42 state parks, 8 mountain ranges, and 7 national forests.
This position is a full-time 12-month faculty appointment with teaching, scholarship, clinical and service responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program in the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado, as well as accreditation standards as set forth by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The qualified individual will have experience with program development, Pediatric Residency leadership, and post-professional education program management. In addition, this individual will have expertise in pediatric physical therapy, including both clinical and teaching experience targeted at this patient population. The qualified individual will demonstrate experience in teaching, course coordination, student advising, teamwork, and scholarship.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is a tenure-track, leadership role as Section Director of Post-Professional Education for the CU Physical Therapy Program. The duties in this faculty position will include teaching, research and service responsibilities. The overall determination of research and clinical activities and allocation of time and effort will be subject to the determination of the Program Director.
Teaching activities including:
Non-teaching time will be dedicated to scholarly activities and dissemination as well as program and department service. Scholarly activity includes, but is not limited to, publishing research, attending conferences, delivering presentations, and networking with others in the field. Administrative responsibilities include providing academic leadership for all residencies/fellowships and other post-professional programs. Anticipated service for the Physical Therapy Program will include Curriculum, Community Volunteerism, Student Promotions Committee and other areas as assigned. Additional responsibilities will include administrative service to the PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences Program.
Attendance at meetings and educational events of the department and program is expected. All faculty provide support for CAPTE self-study and annual accreditation activities, student ceremonies, and faculty search committees. Faculty may assist with student recruitment, interviews, and academic counseling sessions. Participation in clinical service is possible with program approval and CU Medicine credentialing. This position requires flexibility for days of the week and times of day due to involvement in multiple courses and program needs.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position has been established at:
Associate Professor: $110, 520 - $124,730
Professor: $124,730 - $164,665
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation

Associate Professor:
- A Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree or a lower-level physical therapy degree with a terminal degree (such as PhD, DSc, DHS, EdD, or equivalent). A current PT license in the State of Colorado or eligibility for licensure in Colorado. Commitment to teaching excellence is required. A minimum of five-year teaching experience in a Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is required, with demonstration of teaching responsibilities in foundational and patient management courses at multiple stages/levels of the curriculum and pediatric content-related courses. Active ABPTS specialization in pediatrics. A minimum of 5 years full-time clinical experience in physical therapy. A minimum of 5 years of experience as a clinical mentor in a pediatric PT residency program. Exhibit independence and up-to-date pedagogy as a Course Coordinator and/or Curricular Track Coordinator.
Professor:
- Eligibility for physical therapy licensure in the state of Colorado. A Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree or a lower-level physical therapy degree with a terminal degree (such as PhD, DSc, DHS, EdD, or equivalent). Knowledge of CAPTE and state clinical education requirements. A minimum of 7 years full-time clinical experience in physical therapy. A minimum of 7 years of experience leading a PT residency or other post-professional program. Demonstration of leadership abilities in national-level roles for professional societies and other organizations. Evidence of an active plan of clinical research, educational scholarship, or other scholarly activity appropriate for a senior faculty member and in accordance with university standards. Experience serving in leadership roles in support of program, department, and university governance.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate Professor:
- A record of professional development (continuing education). Residency/fellowship program graduate and/or completion of a research-based post-doctoral fellowship. Experience with Canvas as LMS, including grading, video integration, discussion board, etc. Experience with video file editing and course integration. Experience with Zoom meetings, including break-out rooms, chat, polling, etc. Experience supporting PhD students through doctoral committee service.
Professor:
- An academic terminal degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc, or equivalent). American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties Certification. A record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations. A record of independent grant funding. Commitment to teaching excellence exceeding 7 years of teaching experience in a Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Full-time clinical experience in physical therapy exceeding 7 years. Experience with virtual instruction and use of the Canvas LMS. Experience with federal grant submissions and a record of independent funding. Experience with PhD student mentorship. Experience with post-doctoral fellow mentorship.
Competencies:
- Demonstration of leadership abilities and process management in Program, APTA State Chapter and/or national APTA activities. Knowledge of CAPTE and state clinical education requirements. Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people at all levels throughout the institution. Leadership ability and commitment to advance diversity and inclusion.
