Job Summary Intermediate to advanced level position providing specialized application systems administration and technical support using Oracle and other vendors’ applications, database engines and products in an enterprise Unix or Windows environment supporting administrative services. This position will be part of a team that works with the PeopleSoft administrative information systems and other associated integrated systems. Performs technical tasks independently in multiple operating systems environments and works with senior level team members to develop processes and procedures for new and updated service implementations. Tasks are varied in nature and often time critical. The customer base and the service environments are complex. Identification of and adherence to IT best practices and standard operation procedures for the unit are important, however, flexibility in meeting the needs of customers is also a key consideration. This position will require some after hours, weekend, and overnight work.

Responsibilities
    Work closely with business system analyst to assist in the development of custom solutions, fixes, patches and securityDocument technical requirements, technical design requirements, use cases, workflow diagrams, and interface designsIdentify and implement appropriate unit testing strategies and prepare resulting test cases and scenariosWork with IT business analysts on the timing, testing, implementation, and documentation of upgrades and/or patches across test, development, staging, and production environments; escalate appropriate issues to vendor support on behalf of IT business analysts or end users.Assist in administering assigned databases¿ assist with backup and recovery operations, database patching, and upgrades.Work closely with business system analysts to diagnose causes and solutions to institutional application errors and issues.Utilize vendor provided diagnostic tools, higher education user groups and vendor product user groups to diagnose issues and implement solutions.Partner with systems and network administrators and other DBAs/application administrators to actively monitor and improve system performance; troubleshoot/solve database issues encountered by new and existing applications.Produce detail migration documentation for moving solutions from the development system through to the production systemAssist in troubleshooting and resolving a variety of problems and issues.Assist in developing software to automate processes.Keep track of industry and state of the art trends in the technology relating to the multiple environments supportedUnderstand basic performance testing tools and can apply those tools in unit testing developed solutions as well as institutional reported performance issuesCollaborate within the organization to ensure that third party software changes, updates are implemented correctly, any issues are addressed, and management notified in a timely mannerParticipate in vendor upgrades to ensure customizations are brought forward as needed as well as participate in extensive testing of upgradesParticipate and lead inter/intra departmental business process improvement initiativesCreate and submit weekly status reportsMonitor system notifications and tickets.
Required Qualifications
    Knowledge of relational database management software.Knowledge of database performance and tuning principles.Knowledge of server operating systems.Knowledge of server scripting languages.Knowledge of functionality testing procedures.Knowledge of general networking environments.Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.Skill in decision making and problem solving.Skill in the provision of support to end users.Skill in oral and written communication.Ability to respond diplomatically to sensitive and critical issues.Ability to effectively multi-task.
Preferred Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent and three to five years related IT experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    At least two years of IT experience working in the generation, installation, and maintenance of server based software, supporting server based Oracle databases and application services in a Unix environment.

    Experience working in an Oracle environment supporting and resolving issues related to the deployment of administrative services support applications in a web-deployed, multi-tier environment.

    Ability to work within deadlines.

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

    Ability to be flexible; quick learner; focused, detail oriented.

    Ability to trnvel occasionally.

    Ability to work on a schedule that includes nights, weekends or holidays when required for upgrades or resolution of production availability issues.

    Ability to function well and maintain customer focus in fast-paced, stressful environment.

    Ability to interact well with diverse population.
