Job Description:
Binghamton University's Cinema Department develops artists and creative thinkers who are willing to explore the experimental. A strong history of underground and independent production has made our trailblazing department an antidote to the Hollywood industry model.
The Department of Cinema seeks an artist to teach two courses in production along with one lecture course about Avant-Garde and Experimental Cinema. The two production courses will include one introducing students to personal video and another related to the applicant's personal practice. Of interest are courses in experimental narrative and script writing, non-fiction, animation, and analog filmmaking. For the Avant-Garde and Experimental Cinema course, the successful applicant will present a knowledge of this genre within a lecture and discussion format with up to 50 students delivered from an artist's perspective. This position carries a 3/3 teaching load and a contract is up to 3 years.
Requirements:
Applicants must have an MFA or equivalent terminal degree in film and video production or a related field by time of appointment, as well as a strong dedication to teaching. Interdisciplinary, global and cross-cultural perspectives are highly encouraged.

History
Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.
Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.
In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.
In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.
