Position overview
Salary range: $64,329 - $72,403; Starting salary will be commensurate with past college-level teaching experience. The posted UC academic salary scales (https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/compensation/2022-23-academic-salary-scales.html) set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. Percent time: 17% to 100%. Part-time or Full-time.

Anticipated start: Appointments for Fall and Spring semesters as well as Summer sessions are usually reviewed in March.

Position duration: Fall and/or Spring; Summer: depends on session.

Position description

The Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses should an opening arise.

The Department of History is generating an applicant pool of qualified instructors to teach courses in all areas of History (Africa, Ancient Greece & Rome, Byzantine, Early Modern Europe, East Asia, North America, Jewish, Late Modern Europe, Medieval Europe, Middle East, Science, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and other various needs), pending openings.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties may include holding regular office hours, calculating grades, advising students, preparing course materials, managing GSIs, and attending appropriate meetings/orientations, etc.

It is important to mark any and all specializations that match your area of expertise. If you would be available for or interested specifically in summer teaching, please indicate as a specialization as well.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
A PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
(by start date) A PhD (or equivalent international degree) is required by the start date. Demonstrated teaching experience is required by the start date.

Preferred qualifications
A PhD (or equivalent international degree) in History, or related field. Demonstrated teaching excellence in the appropriate fields with undergraduates and, where appropriate, graduate students.
