Job Description:

The Director of Development, UF Parent & Family Giving for University Initiatives is responsible for implementing a broad range of fundraising activities in support of Student Life, Undergraduate Affairs and University-wide and Academic College initiatives. Reporting to the Executive Director of Advancement, the incumbent is responsible for assisting in developing and executing a comprehensive parent & family giving fundraising program and strategy to fulfill the financial and strategic needs of UF Advancement.

Role and Responsibilities:

Portfolio Management
  • Build and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of: Student Life Undergraduate Affairs, University-wide and Academic College initiatives.
  • Develop new funding initiatives to broaden the universities donor base and build new donor/parent pipelines.
  • Strategically manage relationships through face-to-face visits to bring gift solicitations to closure.
  • Maximize travel plans by geographic regions to focus on areas saturated with the most $100K+ rated major gift parent prospects.
  • Oversee and lead stewardship efforts for gifts to the Gator Parent Family Association Fund.

UF Parent & Family Giving Program
  • Lead UF Parent & Family Giving Program and develop strategic direction.
  • Supervise the Associate Director of Parent and Family Philanthropy who is a front-line fundraiser and responsible for annual giving strategies for parent and family member prospects.
  • Oversee Parent & Family Philanthropy Council to include identifying, qualifying and recruiting new members/donors, soliciting and tracking major and annual gift solicitation, and maintaining regular communications.
  • Lead engagement and communication with Philanthropy Council members prospects and donors in support of activities and events.
  • Create P&FG program marketing materials and website including overall P&FG website as well as Philanthropy Council webpages. Collaborate with the Strategic Communications & Marketing team as needed.
  • Oversee and develop new funding initiatives to broaden the universities donor base and build new donor/parent pipelines.
  • Initiate, plan, and support activities and events involving parent and family philanthropy council & leadership society members, donors and prospects.
  • Engage parent and family philanthropy council & leadership society members and donors at events.
  • Direct strategic planning for implementation of fundraising programs designed to secure funding in support of university-wide initiatives from parents.
  • Develop and attend programs and events on and off campus.
  • Evaluate reporting and tracking for P&FG fundraising efforts.

Development Strategies
  • Manage a comprehensive parent & family giving program, which includes oversight of the UF Parent & Family Philanthropy Council (PFPC)
  • Lead strategic planning for Parent Unit Partnership (PUP) initiative meetings with College & Unit partners.
  • Coordinate individual engagement plans for qualified major gift parent prospects.
  • Develop and present major gift proposals and acknowledge and recognize gifts in ways that are meaningful to donors and appropriate to the mission, vision, and values of the unit, UFA/UFF.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key campus stakeholders to facilitate information exchange, joint programming, and clear communication regarding parent and family programs.
  • Serve on work groups that support campaign, fundraising, and strategic planning efforts for programs and initiatives involving parents.

Administrative
  • Ensure best practices are in alignment with UF Advancement's Vision and Values of Excellence, Discovery & Innovation, Inclusion, Freedom & Civility, Community and Stewardship., and UF Advancement's diverse and inclusive environment; ensure best practices in office systems, practices, files and record keeping; ensure effective use of strategic tools and resources.
  • Plan and monitor the budget, using resources for best results in fundraising and planning activities involving volunteers, prospects, faculty and administration.


Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and three years of appropriate experience in Development or a related field; or a bachelor's degree in appropriate areas of specialization and five years of experience in Development or a related field.

A valid Florida driver license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Three to five years of fundraising experience with proven success soliciting to major gifts.
  • Prior experience in a university or nonprofit environment.
  • Passion and a deep appreciation for initiatives supporting students.
  • The ability to work strategically, develop and implement constituency programs and activities, along with a talent for motivating volunteers.
  • Must be an outstanding communicator and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills; and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with a diverse constituency.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and a customer service-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and a team player
  • Competency in problem solving.
  • An appreciation for and support of diversity in the workplace in all its forms; proven success working with stakeholders; excellent strategic planning and project management skills; experience in a data-driven environment; organizational skills; and the ability to lead, influence and motivate others are required.
  • Must be an outstanding communicator and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills; and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with a diverse constituency.
  • Working knowledge in these areas: Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, internet browsers, preferably Internet Explorer, E-mail. Working knowledge of a donor database, contact management and tracking system.
  • The ability and willingness to travel.

UF Advancement offers Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Training to positions where traveling, events, alumni, and/or facilities are an essential function. CPR/AED training for these positions will need to be completed within the first year of employment and maintained thereafter.
