Job Description:

This position is located in Cost Analysis/Construction Accounting, part of the Finance & Accounting Division, and assists with all aspects of construction accounting processes, including capitalization and close-outs, funding review, tracking, accounting, reconciliation, and the financial reporting of all construction funds. The successful incumbent will coordinate with many departments across the University of Florida to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of accounting for construction projects.

Some of the duties of this position include:

Prepares documentation for the capitalization of construction work in progress. Coordinates major construction project closeouts with appropriate UF departments, including UF Planning, Design and Construction, Housing, IFAS Facilities, UF Facilities Services, Asset Management, and other UF departments. Reconciles project balances, verifies all transactions are posted, and prepares documentation for returning unexpended cash. Performs minor and quick response construction project reconciliation to financial statements, return of any funding sources remaining, and close out.

Reviews financial journal cash requests for compliance and accuracy, approves cash transfers to support construction projects, and establishes financial budgets in the university's accounting system. Conducts research on issues, prepares analytical reports, and resolves errors. Reviews all construction purchase order requests for appropriate funding use and general ledger account codes.

Assists with ongoing tracking of additions, renovations, or remodeling and the maintenance of accounting and budgetary records for all construction projects, including the reconciliation of university records to the Florida Department of Education

Assists with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reporting for construction accounting and any ad hoc or audit-related reporting requests.

Expected Salary:

$48,000- $58,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Accounting degree preferred
  • Ability to work and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and customers
  • Understand and apply applicable University, state and federal rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to assigned areas of responsibility
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and orally
  • Utilize problem solving techniques and to work independently
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of technology
