The University of Tennessee has an opening of a research associate/postdoctoral position for advanced scanning probe microscopy of electronic and ionic transport phenomena in materials for energy (batteries and fuel cells) and information (memristors, ferroelectrics) storage and photoinduced phenomena in hybrid perovskites. The strong emphasis is made on machine learning based analysis of the multidimensional data and development of the automated experiment workflows. This position resides in University of Tennessee, Institute for Advanced Materials & Manufacturing, Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The postdoc will be supervised by Prof. Sergei V. Kalinin at UT and will work closely with scientists at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The initial appointment is a temporary full-time assignment of 12 months.
Qualifications
Requirement:extensive experience with scanning probe microscopy methods, including Piezoresponse Force Microscopy and associated spectroscopies. The candidate should be interested in development and exploration of novel SPM modes including imaging under bias, light, and chemical stimuli. Familiarity with general materials science of the materials with ferroelectric, mixed electronic-ionic functionalities, and physics of photovoltaics. Basic knowledge of Python and strong interest in learning ML applications for experimental data analytics. Hands-on experience with IoT and device programming (Raspberry Pi, Arduino) is not required, but is a strong plus. Present and report research results and publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals in a timely manner. Work collaboratively in a team environment and interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues.Applicants must hold a graduate level degree (PhD) in materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, physics, or closely related field of study and have an established record of excellence in their area of specialization.
