The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of an area administrator, plan, organize, coordinate, develop, implement, and oversee the day-to-day operations of a variety of student services programs and areas, serving as a liaison for students. Performs a variety of complex and highly responsible administrative and program support for assigned student services program or location. Initiates, develops and maintains strong relationships with students to ensure student access and success within specific program guidelines. Actively collaborates with the director, external educational staff, and internal program staff to identify and use innovative and engaging practices to maximize student success especially for students whose backgrounds have not prepared them for college readiness. Demonstrates leadership to encourage and model a holistic approach to programming and student support.

This job class is a classified administrator position and requires strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Promotes a positive atmosphere and facilitates cooperation and collaboration as a representative of the assigned program in interactions with the campus community and outside agencies and schools.

MESA (Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement) focuses academic and student support services to increase the number of educationally and economically disadvantaged students pursuing degrees in mathematics, engineering, science, and technology who are eligible to transfer to a four-year institution. Students are engaged in a cohort model supported by faculty mentors, tutoring, academic counseling, and student success workshops to support persistence, retention, completion and transfer.

CLASSIFICATION: Range 20 on the Administrative Confidential Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00p.m., Monday through Friday.

SUPERVISOR: Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Student Services or designee

Essential Functions:

Education/Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education, social science, or a related fieldDemonstrated experience in building positive relationships, motivating and supporting low income and potential first generation studentsExperience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with school and community personnelDemonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, as well as staff members and students with physical and/or learning disabilities.Experience Preferred:Significant experience in coordinating and implementing programs designed to assist students in post-secondary educationExperience managing a caseload of students, working with individuals as well as groupsAdditional Information

Salary placement would only be negotiable if the candidate held the same position with another community college and step 2 or 3 would be the maximum considered depending on the number of years of service.
