Position Summary:

Western Carolina University’s (WCU) Department of Human Services invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor faculty position in the counseling program. Anticipated begin work date is August 2023. Review of applications will begin February 24 and continue until the position is filled?

Counseling faculty teach, supervise, and advise students in a CACREP-accredited, master’s degree program in counseling (school and clinical mental health counseling specialties) at the WCU instructional site at Biltmore Park in Asheville, NC. Faculty teach three courses each semester, with the option to teach in the summer. They may also teach undergraduate counseling courses at WCU’s main campus in Cullowhee. Faculty conduct scholarship activities and provide service to the university, counseling profession, and region. The successful candidate(s) will advise students in the clinical mental health counseling specialty area as well as teach students from both the clinical mental health and school counseling specialties, consistent with their unique expertise and program needs. Assist with recruitment activities and review of student applicants; monitoring of student progress, and collaboration with clinical agencies and schools on professional development and outreach services. Provide practicum and internship supervision and perform other related duties as requested within the program, department, college, and university. Courses to be taught may include: addictions, developmental perspectives, helping skills, group counseling, assessments, and practicum/internship.

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned doctorate in counselor education, or ABD with expected completion of doctorate by August 2023, from an accredited institution and CACREP-accredited doctoral program; evidence of, or potential for, expertise in master’s-level teaching in CACREP core curriculum and clinical mental health counseling specialty area; licensure or license eligibility as a licensed clinical mental health counselor/licensed professional counselor; experience teaching addictions course(s) and/or clinical experience; interest in role as field placement coordinator; experience and commitment to working with diverse populations. Applicants should demonstrate promise for excellence in teaching, a record of scholarship, and service.

Preferred Qualifications:

North Carolina Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor or eligibility; supervision licensure or certification; experience or interest in teaching developmental perspectives, helping skills, group counseling, assessments, and practicum/internship.
