Job Details

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, a division of the University of Virginia located in Wise, Virginia, invites applications for a position in the mathematics department to support a new data analytics program. The position is a full-time, tenure-track, 9-month commitment at the assistant professor level in Applied Mathematics or Statistics. The start date is August 2023.

Duties include creating and teaching undergraduate courses in mathematics and statistics at both the introductory and advanced undergraduate levels; serving the department and college on various committees; advising students; pursuing ongoing scholarly activity preferably in conjunction with undergraduate students; and assisting the department chair with assessment and other duties as needed.

Preference will be given to candidates who articulate a clear understanding of UVA Wise’s public liberal arts mission.

Successful candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; must have a Ph.D. (ABD candidates will be considered but must have the Ph.D. completed by the date of appointment) in Mathematics or Statistics or an equivalent research degree with at least 18 graduate hours in applied mathematics or 18 graduate hours in statistics; and should have the demonstrated ability for engaged and innovative teaching at the undergraduate level.
