The Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering (OME) at FAU has a student body of over 500 undergraduate and 80 graduate students. The Ocean Engineering program was initiated in 1965 as the first undergraduate ocean engineering program in the country. Today, in addition to the Boca Raton facilities, the program extends to the ocean-side SeaTech research and education facility in Dania Beach, Florida, and includes BS, MS and PhD degree programs. PhD programs include those with majors in Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with Aerospace Engineering Concentration, and Mechanical Engineering with Neuro-engineering Concentration. If an applicant with aerospace background is selected, it is desired that they help grow the aerospace engineering concentration within the mechanical engineering major by teaching and conducting research in this area.
