Job Summary:

To teach entry-level courses in the Special Education and Education concentration of the Human Services Department. Design and deliver competency-based curriculum using multiple instructional modalities, including on-line, distance learning, hybrid, and lecture for the Associate Degree program. Ability to develop diverse agency and community-based education/special education field placement opportunities. Facilitate and supervise field placement experiences for students in the Education/Special Education program. Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.The Human Services program prepares students for entry-level positions in a variety of educational and social service professions and for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs at institutions of higher education throughout the country. The purpose of the CCRI Department of Human Services is to teach students to function as competent, ethical Human Services practitioners and educators prepared to fill a variety of entry level positions in a diverse society, well equipped to pursue a Baccalaureate degree in their chosen profession. Each concentration is designed to facilitate professional development and job market preparation balanced with courses that reflect the more traditional requirements for a well-rounded liberal arts education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with students of various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences.
Outreach and Recruitment:
  • Recruit for and build the Education/Special Education concentrations on all campuses.
  • Identify community partners in agencies and school settings to develop quality field placement experiences.
Advising:
  • Advise students in the area of transfer to four-year-colleges Advise and assist Associate Degree candidates in the areas of course selection, workforce, and career placement.
  • Advise students in the area of transfer to four-year colleges.
Departmental Support:
  • Contribute to a dynamic teaching and learning environment requiring adaptability, creativity, and teamwork.
  • Travel and teach at multi-campus locations as required by departmental needs.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide activities and committee work.
  • Demonstrate commitment to collaboration and collegiality.
  • Assist in academic program review and assessment and implement program revisions as needed.
  • Foster relationships and facilitate transfer and articulation with RI Institutes of Higher Education.
Curriculum Development:
  • Use innovative instructional strategies and technology that support student success and recognize diverse learning styles.
  • Provide supervision of paraprofessionals and adult learners in field placement and settings.

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in Special Education required. Minimum of three years’ experience teaching college level Special Education and Education courses required, preferably at a Community College. Experience working with ages Birth through 21 in special education, inclusion classroom or agency settings with adults required. Expertise required in the areas of specialneeds, such as but not limited to the population of children and/or adults with developmental, learning, emotional/behavioral and/or physical disabilities. Demonstrable record of excellence in teaching, curriculum and program development, program, and course assessment, and maintaining a learner-centered environment. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.

The most suitably qualified candidate will possess the following competencies:Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Outlook, Proficient in Blackboard LMS.

The College provides a variety of career, technical and academic programs at four main campuses in Warwick, Lincoln, Providence and Newport. A secondary Providence Campus is located in the historic Shepard Building in the heart of downtown Providence and courses are also offered at a satellite facility in Westerly.

CCRI offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs to its approximately 18,000 students and its non-credit classes for workforce training or personal enrichment through the Center for Workforce and Community Education receive more than 32,000 registrations annually.
