Head Nurse of the Saint Vincent Archabbey Infirmary [a privately owned and operated ten (10) bed facility, that provides residential long-term and short-term care for 5-10 members of the monastic community, as well as clinical services to all members of the monastic community].

Reports to: The Prior of Saint Vincent Archabbey

Supervises: Clinical nursing staff [currently one RN, one LPN, five CNA’s, & 4 Aides]; dietary [four kitchen & serving staff], and administrative support team.

Assists: Physicians who are contracted to provide weekly Wednesday morning appointments for medical diagnosis & treatments needed by our Infirmary residents and the larger monastic community.

Primary Function:

    Create, maintain, and ensure a safe, respectful, professional, and effective environment that promotes convalescence, healing, and quality care for residents of the infirmary.Improve the health and wellness of the entire monastic community.Decrease lifestyle diseases and clinical needs of the monastic community.Foster superior quality patient care for residents of the infirmary and the entire monastic community.
Required Qualifications:

Education:

    BSN required. Certificate or degree in business administration or other appropriate program in management, is preferred. Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in Pennsylvania. Strong clinical background in adult male health, population health, and geriatrics, preferred.
Experience:

    At least five years of related nursing experience demonstrating increasing responsibilities in managing or administering a healthcare facility, particularly in a nursing home or patient care facility.
Essential Duties:

    Responsible for overall clinical operational performances of St. Vincent Archabbey InfirmaryWork in collaboration with facility leadership, physicians, contract pharmacies, nursing services, rehab services, and local hospitals, to ensure that all monastic community members receive excellent service and careAuthorize expenditures for supplies, equipment and services maintaining sound financial practicesEnsure that our Infirmary/Clinic mirrors compliance with local, state and federal guidelines and requirementsDevelop and maintain medical policy and for Infirmary/ClinicFirst line resource for all health, medical, and clinical needs Infirmary residents & monastic community members.Responsible for administration, implementation and continuous review of medical & clinical aspects to include:Determine appropriate utilization and implementation of medical services, treatments and care of monastic community membersEnsure routine physical assessments to determine ongoing medical and wellness needs of individual members and the whole monastic populationLeads collaboration with monastic community & its leadership, and medical team to determine level of care based on patient’s diagnosis, health, ability, and home care needsScheduling appropriate staffing as clinical care needs demandManage and oversee prescription medication, which includes: compliance of correct medication, administration, observation for effectiveness and adverse reactions, side effects, renewals, and change orders.Coordinate hospital admissions and dischargeDevelop and implement wellness programs and initiatives that create wellness awareness, motivation for the entire monastic community along with tools that help people adapt and maintain a well-rounded healthy lifestyleDevelop individual wellness plans for medically high-risk monastic community members that reduce risk factors, medical costs, absenteeism, improved work production and overall healthy lifestyles.Manage and coordinate adult vaccination program following CDC recommendations and for monastic community members and Infirmary staffParticipate with worker compensation cases and facility incident reports.Develop wellness programs for specific disease populations [cardio-vascular, diabetes, cancer, metabolic syndrome] to help those who wish to participateProvide ongoing positive educational opportunities and tools for clinical staff that promote best practices of health careInitiate, update, and revise care plans direct to meeting the needs of the patient. Evaluate effectiveness of care plan and revise accordinglyEducate patients, pre & post-operatively and in regard to restoration of health, or adaptation to limitations imposed by their lives, disease, or condition. Educate patients about self-care and lifestyle changes that can contribute to the success of a treatment. Follow-up with patients regarding these educational recommendations.Administer Safe Work Place program which includes ensuring clinical staff is certified in BLS. CPR, AED, and First AidProvide orientation to new staff members.Provide annual Employee Performance EvaluationsOther duties as assigned.
