The Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources (RSENR) at the University of
Vermont (UVM) seeks applicants for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Systems Ecology and Sustainability Science. Qualified candidates should have a strong foundation in integrative systems research to address ecological, social, cultural and equity components of sustainability science to support climate adaptation efforts. We seek candidates who collaborate with scientists, policymakers, non- governmental organizations, and diverse communities and stakeholders to implement strategies and solutions to sustainability issues at regional, national, or international levels. Candidates who can build a research program centered on ecosystem health and sustainability using interdisciplinary methods are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience with integrative tools to evaluate alternative actions to solve climate change problems at the society-environment interface is desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will teach (40%), conduct research (40%), and engage in service (20%). Their research will focus on the interactions of socio-ecological systems, sustainability science, and climate adaptation, and complement the scholarship and expertise of faculty in the Rubenstein School. Service expectations include contributing to school and university committees. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Rubenstein School (typically two per semester) and contribute courses to any of the five majors in the Rubenstein School (Environmental Science; Forestry; Parks, Recreation, and Tourism; Sustainability, Ecology, and Policy; or Wildlife and Fisheries Biology). They will serve as an academic advisor for Rubenstein School undergraduate students (typically 20-30 students per year) and provide mentorship and guidance to students conducting research, internships, and independent studies. The successful candidate will supervise graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D.), serve on graduate student thesis/dissertation committees, and develop an extramurally funded research program that
leads to publications and presentations in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets. They may also teach courses in the graduate curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in environmental sciences, environmental studies, or related field with a focus on interdisciplinary research in sustainability and/or climate adaptation is required. Candidate research portfolios should demonstrate an integrated approach to climate adaptation efforts across socio-ecological systems. Applicants should have demonstrated capacity to deliver quality and impactful teaching, mentoring, and advising of undergraduate and graduate students, and demonstrated ability to develop an extramurally-funded and productive research program. We seek candidates with creative and innovative approaches to interdisciplinary science, evidence of applied research, and strong quantitative skills. Candidates should also have demonstrated experience developing collaborative relationships (e.g., with peers, state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, marginalized communities, landowners) and a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational and research
experiences.
