Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the daily supervision and day-to-day operations of the Grounds Tree Crew.

Responsibilities include:

Provides daily work assignments for members of the work unit. Provides on the job training for the Tree Crew. Inspects work performed by members of the work unit. Evaluates employee performance and counsels employees as needed regarding job performance.

Approves leave requests and certifies time worked for members of the work unit. Supervises the removal of trees and branches and participates in related work. Drives vehicles and operates equipment relevant to Tree Crew duties.

Maintains a safe, clean, sustainable, and attractive landscaped environment for the students, faculty, and staff of our institution. Performs general grounds keeping maintenance tasks around buildings and on campus as related to Tree Crew responsibilities. This includes site preparation and cleanup.

Responsible for security, safety and maintenance of all equipment, supplies and vehicles. Ensures all manual and power equipment is in proper working condition and reports maintenance problems to the supervisor. Prepares requests for materials and supplies. Will support areas within Grounds and other assigned special projects as needed.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency and two years experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to two years. Relevant training may substitute for experience. International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist license required, or ability to obtain license within 6 months of hire.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements as determined by position.
  • Ability to train and supervise employees.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to perform groundskeeping work to include the transplanting, cultivation, pruning, and trimming of plants, shrubs, and trees.
  • Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Drivers License CDL Class B
Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

  • Experience with the operation of heavy equipment including- tractors, forklifts and bucket trucks.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience in landscape operations.
  • At least 3 years of experience in tree removal and limb pruning.

Anticipated Salary Range

The minimum salary for this position is $36,250.00.
