Job Summary:

This is a unique opportunity in the Colorado Program for Musculoskeletal Research (CPMR), situated in the Research Division of the Department of Orthopedics and including investigators across the 4 University of Colorado Campuses focused on musculoskeletal research. The ideal candidate will be an expert in musculoskeletal development and disease with a track record of using the zebrafish model to approach basic mechanistic questions. The position, which will involve collaborative research and teaching, is situated on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The position is at the Adjunct Professor level, requires a 0.25 FTE in-person commitment, and is not eligible for tenure.

Key Responsibilities:

This is a position requiring interest and expertise in the study of musculoskeletal biology. The ideal candidate uses the zebrafish as a model system to support study of molecular and genetic regulation of development, growth, homeostasis, and disease in relevant tissues of the musculoskeletal system. The applicant must be comfortable developing and either independently or collaboratively submitting grant applications, supervising and driving research projects, and contributing to the CMPR education program. In general, the applicant will:
    Perform basic/translational research to study development, growth, homeostasis, and disease in the musculoskeletal context.
  • Employ the use of zebrafish models, which will take advantage of local expert collaborators and the new facility in the CU AMC vivarium.
  • Apply for grants, including local, foundation-supported, industry-supported, or federal, with a primary focus on federal opportunities
  • Execute research and publish results in appropriate peer-reviewed journals
  • Present research findings locally and in national/international contexts, particularly in societies specific to the musculoskeletal field
  • Teach, including delivery of didactic lectures and 1:1 mentoring of trainees
  • Participate in activities in the CPMR and Department of Orthopedics that are relevant to the research and teaching missions in each context.
  • Maintaining compliance and coordinate the implementation of CPMR initiatives with the Vice Chair of Research.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
    PhD in a biomedical field or MD degree
  • 5+ years of experience as a basic/translational science investigator
  • Current academic rank of associate professor (or international equivalent) or higher

Preferred Qualifications:
    A track record applying for and winning grants to support research
  • Evidence of an international reputation based on the scope and magnitude of published works
  • Evidence of success mentoring young investigators to independence.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established. CURRENT HIRING RANGE:

$35,000 - $45,000 for 0.25FTE (annualized range: $140,000 - $180,000)

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
