Nature of Work:
We are a gut microbiome research lab in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Personalized Medicine. We conduct clinical and laboratory research on how the gut microbiome influences various disease states including 1) metabolic co-morbidity and chronic inflammation in HIV infected individuals and 2) mechanisms underlying an effect of diet on morbidity and mortality from Clostridioides difficile infection. This individual will perform original research related to these projects.

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $53,760 or current NIH levels.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

- Bioinformatic analysis of molecular microbiome data (16S rRNA and shotgun metagenomics) from human and mouse gut. Laboratory experiments exploring the effects of synbiotic intervention strategies to prevent C. difficile morbidity and mortality in gnotobiotic mice. Support a clinical trial to test whether a high fiber/ low fat diet can prevent C. difficile recurrence in cancer patients. Prepare manuscripts for publication and present results at conferences

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Ph.D. degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with microbiome data analysis tools including QIIME Some skills in programming: e.g. R and/or python Aerobic and anaerobic bacterial culture Prior experience working with gnotobiotic mice
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Prior experience with analysis of microbiome data. Experience with molecular techniques including, but not limited to, PCR, qPCR. Experience with bacterial culture. Strong writing and communication skills Must be knowledgeable in samples inventory (receiving and data entry), and some experience with nucleic acid extractions and fluid handling. The candidate will perform established laboratory assays with the initial supervision of senior personnel until capable of performing those assays independently.
