This position is posted as Digital Communications Coordinator, Senior (Photography & Graphic Design Emphasis), which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Senior.

This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

Job Description

The Digital Communications Coordinator, Senior will play an active role through the following activities to further the university's mission and actively tell the Lumberjack story online. Reporting to the Assistant Director of NAU Social Media, this position supports the branding and graphic needs for the university's social media communications; especially, working as the social media liaison with NAU President's Office to support real-time social media coverage and provide multimedia and design support for presidential social media communication needs. This position will also help implement university communication initiatives as determined by the NAU Communications team and NAU President's Office.

Digital Communication, Photography and Graphic Design - 70%
  • Leading and managing graphic design and multimedia projects for NAU's social media channels.
  • Leading design efforts for high profile university-wide social media communications.
  • Proving lead photo coverage for NAU President's Office as directed.
  • Providing photo direction and recommendations as needed for projects.
  • Preparing a variety of skilled graphic designs for print and digital media, including postcards, fliers, stickers, digital gif stickers, virtual reality effects (Snapchat lenses, Instagram filters), digital toolkits and other materials.
  • Providing social media design direction for graphic designers across the university to ensure the delivery of consistent quality that aligns with the university's brand standards and communications effectively with various target audiences.
  • Organizing and maintaining project files as well as accurate records of work in progress for department records.
  • Collaborating with University Marketing to upload digital assests to Widen to support digital needs for the university community.

Administrative and Technical - 25%
  • Assisting with university's planning efforts in the area of social and digital strategy.
  • Helping with coordination and collaboration with all areas of NAU's social media channels to ensure communication protocols are properly implemented, tested and functional, and that system issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Supporting ongoing monthly analytics reporting and insights into social media campaigns and use of digital media assets through Widen.
  • Developing and maintaining internal relationships, especially with University Marketing and the President's Office, to promote teamwork and advance the priorities of NAU.
  • Advise, consult, educate and support other department staff with their social media and digital communications efforts.
  • Coordinating social and digital training for the university community, as needed.
  • Serving on committees as required and delegated.
  • Staying abreast of digital best practices and trends, especially in the area of social media and digital designs, to identify new opportunities to connect with NAU's audiences.

Other - 5%
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment
  • This position works in both indoor and outdoor on- and off- campus locations for photo and video shoots, which sometimes require physically carrying heavy photo and video equipment. This position also requires weekend work to cover university events as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in digital marketing, brand marketing, video production, PR, and/or customer service.
  • Experience in mentoring student workers.
  • Demonstrated project management skills: the ability to establish priorities and objectives; to gather, classify, categorize and readily retrieve information to meet deadlines; and to clearly communicate with project stakeholders and participants.
  • Collaborative, creative work style and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Strong leadership skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience conceptualizing, creating and editing design and multimedia pieces for web, social media and email communication to various audiences.
  • Ability to analyze trends and use statistical information to inform strategic decision making.
  • Experience working with remote employees.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge
  • Expert knowledge of graphic design tools and processes for various media, including relevant digital media applications.
  • Mastery of industry related software applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products (to include InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and other related applications).
  • Mastery of photography and photo editing/retouching using Adobe Photoshop.
  • Knowledge and experience of developing marketing collateral with an emphasis on working with diverse audiences and spanning across a variety of media.
  • Knowledge and experience of working within established institutional brands and related brand standards.
  • Expert knowledge of university policies related to the university's visual identity.
  • Expert knowledge of design concepts and practices supporting brand-level, high-profile, and large-scale marketing initiatives.
  • Expert knowledge and experience of working within established institutional brands and related brand standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of developing marketing collateral with an emphasis on working with diverse audiences and spanning across a variety of media.
  • Knowledge of current ADA accessibility standards concerning design requirements.

Skills
  • Experience managing assets and the and brand identity guidelines for a brand.
  • Provide guidance and leadership on projects; creating and implementing additional training and development as needed.
  • Mastery of industry related software applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products (to include InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and other related applications).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in digital asset and project management systems.
  • Experience in delivering complex presentations and design pitches.
  • Skill in preparing reports and summaries.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $41,421. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
