Description:
The Department of Industrial Engineering (IE) invites applications for a Professor of Practice non-tenure track faculty position starting in August 2023.
This new position is intended to provide leadership at the Department level in Corporate Relations and Professional Degree Program Management. The ideal candidate will have extensive background working with corporate partners and promoting / managing professional degree programs. The candidate should be ready to support existing expertise within the Industrial Engineering capstone design structure, as well as assisting the College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences by providing synergy across departments and supporting client interaction in managing capstone design.
Responsibilities include:
- Identifying and nurturing relationships with corporate partners to create opportunities for student engagement (internships, scholarships), capstone projects, funded research, and enrollment in professional degree programs.
- Expanding the reach of existing professional degree programs and identifying new opportunities.
- Assisting as needed in the delivery of senior design / capstone projects throughout the year.
- Assisting as needed in industry-sponsored research projects.
- Contributing to the academic mission by teaching design-based and engineering management courses.
- Offering seminars or short courses that focus on practical skills development.
The Department of Industrial Engineering has 23 full-time faculty members with additional growth expected over the next few years. We have a student population of over 500 undergraduate students, 125 M.S. students, 100 MEng students and 40 Ph.D. students. Qualifications:
Successful candidates must have a master's degree or terminal degree in Industrial Engineering or a closely related field and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with previous high-level engineering and leadership experience in the private or public sectors. Competitive candidates will demonstrate the ability to support the growth of our professional degree programs, provide undergraduate and graduate teaching excellence, contribute to the department’s mission, and commit to our diversity and inclusion goals. The ideal candidate will have extensive background working with corporate partners and promoting / managing professional degree programs. We are seeking candidates with prior experience working in graduate education for working professionals. The ideal candidate would also have background and an interest in introducing students to engineering management, project design, and business principles, possibly leading to new course offerings.
