The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Infectious Diseases of the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS) are seeking to recruit a visionary Infectious Diseases Specialist to lead the UHN - SHS Division of Infectious Diseases, a division of the joint Department of Medicine. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. This hospital Division Head position is for a 5-year term, renewable once following a successful review. Effective start date of appointment will be March 1, 2023, or soon thereafter, to be negotiated.

The successful candidate will lead a large academically successful and diverse Infectious Diseases Division. The UHN - SHS division is the one of the 4 hospital-based Infectious Diseases divisions within the University of Toronto Division of Infectious Diseases. The UHN-SHS division has 26 full time staff physicians across SHS and UHN who provide inpatient and outpatient Infectious Diseases care, leading diverse and comprehensive tertiary subspecialty programs. The clinical division provides care across 5 separate sites (UHN-Toronto Western Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital as primary sites with consultation provided to UHN – Toronto General Hospital, UHN – Princess Margaret Hospital and UHN - Toronto Rehabilitation Hospital). UHN and SHS are situated on land that for thousands of years, has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Toronto is Canada's largest city, and a center for education, healthcare, business, finance, technology, entertainment and culture.

The successful applicant will be a visionary leader with sophisticated interpersonal skills, leadership or equivalent work-related / lived experience and a track record of achievement in one or more of research, education, creative professional activity, system design, quality and safety, equity and diversity and/or medical leadership.

Reporting to the Physicians in Chief at UHN and SHS, the Division Head will be expected to support evolution of excellence in equitable, patient-centered care and quality and safety programs, to work collaboratively with diverse groups and lead with empathy and compassion in advocating for the advancement of patient care and the Division. They will support Division recruitment at the hospitals to optimize both clinical care and the academic agenda. They will advance an academic strategic plan and fundraising program. They will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of their work and will uphold equity as a central component of high-quality patient care. They will work with the University Departmental Division Director to optimize citywide infectious diseases activity by supporting faculty growth and development across the continuum, focusing on advancing the academic strategic plans of both the hospitals and city-wide divisions, assisting with city-wide educational responsibilities of the division, and promoting scholarship and research.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the medical, administrative and research leadership of both hospitals, in order to develop leading academic and clinical programs in infectious diseases.

The successful candidate must hold a MD (or equivalent) and recognized subspecialty infectious diseases qualifications. They must have or be eligible for licensure in Ontario. Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Compensation will be highly competitive with the usual income range for an Academic Infectious Diseases Physician in the Province of Ontario.
