Position Summary:

The College of Engineering and Computer Science (CoECS) at Arkansas State University-Jonesboro (A-State) seeks to hire a full-time tenure-track faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor in the broad areas of Electrodynamics for energy harvesting, Smart grid, Electric and Autonomous vehicles and Cyber physical systems for energy transition. This is a nine-month appointment beginning in Fall 2023. Teaching and research interests in one or more areas related to: Electric and Autonomous vehicles, Smart-grids, cyber physical systems for energy transition, electrodynamics and energy harvesting is preferred. Successful applicants will pursue external funding to support research and actively engage in service-related activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate ability and desire to become a licensed professional engineer in Arkansas
  • Demonstrate potential for broad-based teaching at undergraduate level, service, and scholarly activities. The successful candidate is expected to teach a variety of in-class and webcasted electrical engineering courses and develop new courses
  • Shared core engineering topics may also be taught to students from the civil, electrical and mechanical engineering programs. Capstone design project supervision opportunities may also be available
  • Develop graduate courses for the M.S. in Engineering program. Graduate teaching may include but not be limited to specialty courses related to the applicant’s specific research interests
  • As part of the obligations, the hired candidate is also expected to advise and mentor students, serve on various committees, participate in recruiting and outreach activities, and lead an active research program in one of the primary areas listed above
  • Demonstrate willingness to collaborate with diverse groups of faculties
  • Other duties as assigned

About the College of Engineering and Computer Science:

The CoECS offers ABET-accredited BS degrees in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. BS degrees in Land Surveying and Geomatics, Construction Management, Engineering Management Systems, Engineering Technology, and Computer Science as well as Master’s degrees in Engineering, Engineering Management, and Computer Science are also offered.The college is on an ambitious growth trajectory that has included upgrades to student and faculty spaces and that emphasizes a stellar student experience, professional development of faculty, emphasis on excellent teaching and research, and proactive engagement with the external community. Broad knowledge and expertise in one or more areas related to electric and autonomous vehicles, electrodynamics for energy harvesting, cyber physical systems for energy transition

An expectation to acquire Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure in the state of Arkansas during the pre-tenure period

A strong background in safety and ethics

Ability to collaborate with faculty across in other disciplines with the college

A demonstrated commitment to sustainability

Additionally, the ideal candidate should exhibit some experience and knowledge in the following areas:

• Industrial and/or academic experience with, but not limited to, principles and practices such as analysis of voltage drop and fault current, voltage and current phase diagrams, true and realized power, power factor, demand and energy rate calculations, cross line and soft start inductive motors, voltage regulation, relay controls, and power systems economics

• Knowledge of and/or Industrial experience in cyber physical systems for energy transition, electric and autonomous vehicles

• Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
