Scope of Job:
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as Assistant Professor of School of Nursing to start in the fall of 2023-2024 academic year.

This position is for faculty that will teach in the undergraduate and/or graduate program at UTRGV. Faculty will work with the program coordinator on curricular design, student assessment, involved in program evaluation, course teaching and clinical oversight. Faculty should possess the ability to offer innovate approaches to academic, teaching, service contributions and research collaboration.
General responsibilities include:
  • Participate in program specific classroom, lab and clinical teaching.
  • Works with the administrative team in promoting state-wide and national recognition for the nursing program.
  • Communicate programmatic needs with the Program Coordinator, Dean of the School of Nursing and the Leadership team.
  • Attends and participates in Professional Organizations and Service to the School and University.
  • Promotes and participates in Research.
  • Has a research agenda/area of focus that they desire to pursue.

School of Nursing Background
The School of Nursing offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nursing. These degrees include a traditional BSN and 2nd degree BSN pre-licensure degree, an RN to BSN, along with graduate degrees in Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, Family Nurse Practitioner, a Post-graduate certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health NP and our new Doctor in Nursing Practice (DNP) that started in Fall 2022. Our faculty teach on two campuses, in both Edinburg and in Brownsville. We have full simulation labs that offer state of the art educational opportunities for all our students. We collaborate with the other health science programs at UTRGV on interdisciplinary clinical experiences and work with hospitals throughout the entire Rio Grande Valley. Minimum Qualifications:
A BSN, MSN and a doctorate in nursing or related field (i.e. PhD, DNP, EdD). Texas RN license or ability to be licensed as RN in Texas prior to beginning the position.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days inlength.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
